Pegasus Chronicles Gives Fans A Brand-New Adventure

Stargate has spent years caught somewhere between its celebrated past and the promise of an eventual return. The franchise’s last live-action production was 2018’s Stargate Origins, a prequel following a young Catherine Langford, while more recent releases such as Timekeepers have kept the SG-1 universe alive, while console versions of the game have also been announced.

Hopes for a major return to television briefly surged when Amazon MGM Studios greenlit a new series from franchise veteran Martin Gero, although that project was ultimately scrapped in June. Despite uncertainty around the franchise’s future, enthusiasm for Stargate is still there. Its dedicated fanbase has continued celebrating SG-1, Atlantis, Universe, and the original film through annual conventions, community rewatches, new games, and an enduring demand for another trip through the Gate.

Whether its future eventually lies on television, in gaming, or somewhere completely unexpected, fans clearly aren’t ready to leave the franchise behind. However, years after its initial announcement, Stargate: Pegasus Chronicles is a true celebration of the IP.

Stargate: Pegasus Chronicles Is A True Celebration Of The Franchise

Stargate: Pegasus Chronicles is an impressive and ambitious fan-created project that effectively turns an existing Star Wars strategy game into a genuine Stargate experience for longtime fans. Built as a total conversion mod for Star Wars: Empire at War – Forces of Corruption, Pegasus Chronicles replaces the game’s factions, units, locations, audiovisual elements, and other content with material drawn from the Stargate universe.

Originally launched in 2017, its current Steam Workshop build remains labeled an Open Beta and was most recently updated in December 2025, but there is a surprising amount here for fans. Players can command the Tau’ri, Goa’uld, and Wraith, alongside the Asurans in space skirmishes, while numerous other civilizations, including the Replicators and Aschen, also appear. The project adds new ships and planets, redesigned effects and animations, multiplayer maps, reworked AI, and several Galactic Conquest scenarios, including Pegasus Prelude, The Alliance of the System Lords, and Stargate Galaxies.

The ground combat is pretty extensive as well, including seven skirmish maps, roughly 40 unique ground units spread across three primary factions, 15 hero units, new structures and turrets, Transportation Rings, faction-specific abilities, and locations modeled after environments from the shows. Even music and sound effects have been incorporated to help recreate the feel of the franchise.

Because this remains a beta, the developers warn that crashes and balance problems are possible. Even so, Pegasus Chronicles offers something Stargate fans have wanted for years: a large-scale strategy sandbox built almost entirely around letting players wage their own interstellar wars across the franchise’s universe.

Stargate Is Overdue For A Proper Reboot

Stargate feels well overdue for a proper revival, and the very existence of projects like Pegasus Chronicles is a strong reminder of how much untapped potential remains in the franchise. Fans are still willing to invest serious time into recreating its ships, factions, planets, and conflicts inside entirely different games, which says a lot about how well Stargate‘s universe still lends itself to interactive storytelling.

A modern AAA RPG, FPS, extraction shooter, etc., could easily build around exploration, squad-based missions, base management, or large-scale interstellar warfare, while a new live-action series could reintroduce the Gate itself to an entirely new generation of fans. The core premise remains incredibly flexible: step through an ancient portal, discover a new world, and deal with whatever is waiting on the other side.

Pegasus Chronicles proves the appetite hasn’t disappeared, and highlights how much fans are still doing themselves while waiting for an official project with the budget and ambition Stargate deserves.
