Pokémon Reveals Starbucks Collab With New Drinks & Must-Have Merchandise

If you’re a Pokémon fan, you’re no stranger to collaborations. That can include anything from clothes to just about any form of merchandise you can imagine, and it ramps up quickly during celebrations and whenever a new game is coming out. Since that’s happening frequently with Pokémon (including spinoffs), fans are never left wanting.

Right now, we’re squarely on the 30th anniversary, which is being celebrated across tons of game lines, including the Pokémon TCG. Now, Pokémon is poised to collaborate with Starbucks, which includes new drinks, as well as merchandise. Thanks to official confirmation from the Pokémon X account, we know exactly how this partnership will go down.

Starting on Wednesday, September 30, Starbucks will launch Pokémon drinks and merch in Japan. The very first drink is inspired by Pikachu, but the collaboration will also offer tumblers with various Pokémon designs.

The signature drink is the Pikachu Honey Cream Latte, which contains honey, caramel, and espresso. If you buy the Pikachu Honey Cream Latte, you’ll also get an original sticker featuring the main collab image (a person holding a Starbucks drink next to Pikachu).

As some background on the name, last December, Starbucks held an internal competition called the “Barista Battle,” where Pokémon like Eevee, Squirtle, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Pikachu all had special drinks made for them. There were 700 entries, and six winning employees were picked, with “Ms. Nitta” from the Koriyama Asaka store representing the Pikachu Honey Cream Latte.

Of course, there’s merchandise to buy, which should go fast in some locations. Here are all the tumbler designs on offer:

  • Pikachu
  • Bulbasaur
  • Charmander
  • Squirtle
  • Eevee
  • Multiple characters (all of the above at once)

Note that the tumblers, while seemingly high quality, cost 6,600 yen, which is roughly $42 USD. Beyond those key tumblers, you can find water bottles (6,600 yen), coffee cups (4,000 yen), clear tumblers (4,000 yen), mugs (2,200 yen), and a strap straw tumbler adventure cup (4,800 yen).

A lot more merch is available beyond cups, including:

  • A glass drip coffee maker (4,900 yen)
  • A Pokémon kettle (5,800 yen)
  • Ceramic Cannister (3,800 yen)
  • Adult apron (4,800 yen)
  • Pikachu kids apron (4,000 yen)
  • Charm (1,500 yen)
  • Art sticker set (1,800 yen)
  • Postcard set (2,000 yen)
  • Posters (2,500 yen)
  • Tote bags (5,000 yen)
  • PVC pouch for cups (2,200 yen)

Pokémon fans who also love coffee might want to check out this collaboration in Japan, or check eBay for secondhand sales. Japan gets most of the cool merchandise and has a ton of Pokémon Centers to boot (a handful just in the greater Tokyo region alone), so it makes sense that this is a region-restricted event.
