McBurnie receives Scotland recall in Pocognoli’s first squad

Scotland’s new boss Sebastien Pocognoli has named his first squad, with Hull City’s Oli McBurnie earning a recall.

McBurnie has played a key role in Hull’s fantastic start to their Premier League campaign.

And his performances have seen him claim a place in Scotland’s squad for the first time in five years.

McBurnie has made 16 appearances for Scotland, but is yet to score a goal.

Uncapped Luis Binks, Colby Donovan, Jon McCracken, Josh McPake and Stephen Welsh have also been included in the 28-man selection.

Only 15 players who represented Scotland at this year’s World Cup feature in Pocognoli’s first selection.

As expected, Scotland will be without talisman Scott McTominay, who has undergone a minor heart operation, though his Napoli club-mate Billy Gilmour does feature.

Gilmour missed the World Cup due to injury.

Another Serie A player, Torino’s Che Adams, has missed out and is reportedly injured.

Scotland face Slovenia, Switzerland and North Macedonia in the Nations League across the upcoming international break.

Wales face Portugal, Denmark and Norway in League A of the Nations League, but Craig Bellamy is without key defender Joe Rodon, who is injured.

Cardiff City forward Cian Ashford has earned his first call-up.
