The Philadelphia Eagles are benefiting from “great work” under rookie offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, quarterback Jalen Hurts says following a 24-22 home win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
The Eagles led from early in the second quarter but were only a point in front with more than nine minutes remaining before Hurts’ 22-yard scramble on third-and-18 and 43-yard pass to Dallas Goeder for their final touchdown.

“When you’ve got new pieces, new elements and new voices coming from new directions, it’s all about honing in and building that chemistry so we can find ways to go out there and win,” said Hurts.
“We’ve got new coaches at almost every position on the offensive side of the ball… when it comes to instilling the values and philosophy of this new system.
“We’ve got new players who are going to make a lot of plays for us this year in new, important roles. We’ve just got to continue to fine-tune those things.”

Washington Commanders vs Philadelphia Eagles: Hurts on NFL win
Drew Stevens’ field goal for Washington provided the only points of the first quarter, but touchdowns by Goedert and Dontayvion Wicks put Philadelphia in front before Jacory Croskey-Merritt followed suit at the other end.
Jake Elliott’s field goal gave Eagles a 17-9 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, with Stefon Diggs and Antonio Williams scoring either side of Goedert in the fourth, in which Philadelphia protected a two-point lead for the final minute.
“We had a lot of great work over the summer,” added Hurts. “I’ve talked about that a lot; very valuable.
“When you get into these in-game situations, it’s the best experience to be able to reflect on. I’m proud… we’re all so hungry to improve and continue to push forward in the same direction.”
Jayden Daniels: Commanders quarterback suffers NFL defeat
Jayden Daniels only played four complete games last season and endured a difficult start this time, the 2024 second overall pick making 18 of 34 passes for 164 yards.
David Blough, who is also in his first senior role as an offensive coordinator after replacing the Commanders’ Kliff Kingsbury, evidently has plenty to work on.
“I’ve got a ton of respect for Jayden Daniels,” said Hurts. “He’s one of the premier quarterbacks in this league.
“It’s never a safe space to be when he’s got the ability and confidence that he has to go out there and play.
“I give a pat on the back to our defense and can’t applaud them enough for how they played. They were able to nip it in the bud when they needed to and had to, so it was a great team win.”
