The Amazing Spider-Man is three weeks away from its biggest landmark ever, issue #1000, and the teases regarding what it will entail are increasingly mouth-watering. Indeed, Marvel Comics can’t afford to let The Amazing Spider-Man #1000 pass by without a story beat that is appropriately scaled to how monumental this issue’s legacy should be, and Joe Kelly and Pepe Larraz might achieve this via a brand-new villain named Ravage and a possible atrocity impacting the Parker family, following the reveal of Aunt May’s biological son, Cormac Crane.

Aunt May is at the heart of this milestone issue, which risks looking like a paper plate of The Amazing Spider-Man #400’s microwaved nachos if she dies, unless her death is truly profound. However, what might occur could affect Peter Parker far more devastatingly, as his relationship with Aunt May may never be the same (barring some unforeseen deal with Mephisto or baffling retcon, anyway).

At the end of The Amazing Spider-Man #35 (LGY #999), Peter finally answers Ricardo’s call and is panic-stricken after hearing that Aunt May has suffered a stroke. This incident prefaces The Amazing Spider-Man #1000, which has had celebratory covers and preview pages revealed recently, and fans could already deduce that Aunt May would wind up in the hospital from these initial, unlettered pages.

Today, in the latest preview pages for The Amazing Spider-Man #1000, it’s been revealed that May’s stroke has apparently resulted in her forgetting who Peter is. And who did Peter find already sat beside her? The Amazing Spider-Man’s Cormac.

With virtually no apparent build-up otherwise, it would be absurd if Cormac wasn’t Ravage. And, if they’re one and the same, Cormac could have either orchestrated May’s memory loss or used his “history-shattering power” to write Peter out of the lore of their lives. Therefore, May might’ve forgotten who Peter was because of her stroke, though she also might not remember because she never actually knew him, not in Ravage’s potential reality retcon.

This way, Cormac could have had a cherished upbringing and lived his whole life with his mother, reversing his and Peter’s roles. Of course, May’s memory loss being stroke-induced would still be tragic.

It’s ironically a bit of Marvel Cinematic Universe synergy, as well, since Marissa Tomei’s Aunt May would’ve also forgotten who Tom Holland’s Peter Parker was if she had been alive. Either way, The Amazing Spider-Man #1000 will be phenomenally alarming if the Parker family’s lives are retconned, and maybe Spider-Man and Ravage’s battle will determine whose life turns out worse, or who wins May as their mother.
