Barbados Tridents made an excellent start with the ball after choosing to field against St Lucia Kings in their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 encounter in Bridgetown. St Lucia had reached 51/1 at the end of the powerplay, with Kamil Pooran and Roston Chase looking to build a strong platform, but Mujeeb Ur Rahman quickly changed the momentum.

The Afghanistan spinner struck with his very first over, removing the well-set Pooran with a perfectly executed yorker. Mujeeb then returned in the 19th over to claim two more wickets, including Charith Asalanka and Matthew Forde, as Barbados kept St Lucia to 138/6. The Tridents later completed a comfortable chase to secure an eight-wicket win.

Mujeeb came into the attack with St Lucia on 51/1 and needed very little time to make an impact. With the sixth delivery of his first over, the spinner fired a quicker yorker straight at Pooran’s stumps. The batter went for a drive but played down the wrong line and was completely beaten by the delivery.

The ball crashed into the timber, ending Pooran’s impressive knock of 37 off 24 balls, which included five fours and a six. Mujeeb had picked up a crucial wicket in his first over, although he barely celebrated the breakthrough and simply exchanged a gentle high five with Brandon King.

Quinton de Kock and Rivaldo Clarke complete comfortable chase

Pooran and Chase had provided most of St Lucia’s batting resistance, with Chase scoring 34 off 28 balls, but John Campbell struggled to find his timing at No. 3. He consumed 27 deliveries for his 24, leaving the Kings short of momentum through the middle of their innings. Mujeeb returned late in the innings to dismiss Asalanka and Forde in the same over, finishing with excellent figures of 3/22, while Daniel Sams claimed 2/20.

Chasing 139, Barbados were given a steady start by Brandon King and Zachary Carter, who added 41 for the opening wicket. The Kings briefly threatened to create some pressure by taking two wickets in 3.1 overs, but Rivaldo Clarke and Quinton de Kock ensured there was no further trouble.

Clarke remained unbeaten on 36 off 34 balls, while de Kock accelerated towards the finish with an unbeaten 47 off 31 deliveries. The South African smashed three fours and two sixes, including two fours and a six in the 18th over, as Barbados reached 139/2 to complete an eight-wicket victory and end their four-match losing streak.
