Marco Rose admitted his Bournemouth side need to win in the Premier League sooner rather than later, after dropping more points late on.

The Cherries conceded an 88th-minute equaliser against Newcastle United, who fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Bournemouth also conceded late goals in their opening defeat to Manchester City and their draw with Everton last time out.

The Cherries are the first team in Premier League history to score the opening goal in their first three games of a season and fail to win any of them (D2 L1), and Rose knows a first win must come soon.

“I try my best. Even the lads. It’s not with the intention to do it,” Rose told BBC Match of the Day about his team’s habit of conceding late goals.

“Sometimes you have phases where things like these happen. We should go for our first win in the Premier League to calm down this kind of talk.

“Regarding the points, I am not happy. We just have two now. It’s about results at this level. But performance-wise, I see a lot of good things.”

Newcastle came from two goals down to avoid defeat in a Premier League game for the first time since March 2024 (4-3 versus West Ham); they had lost each of their last 15 league games when trailing by 2+ goals.

Jacob Ramsey’s equaliser (87:38) was the latest by a Newcastle substitute in a Premier League match since February 2024, with Matt Ritchie also equalising to make it 2-2 against Bournemouth in that case (91:07).

While Matthias Jaissle was not entirely happy with the draw, he believes his Newcastle side are heading on the right path.

“I have mixed feelings. But after that start, you should be happy. But if we could have performed at the best level over 90 minutes, we could have had all three points,” Jaissle told BBC Match of the Day.

“We couldn’t match Bournemouth’s intensity in the first half and conceded twice. That’s something we could avoid. But I’m proud of the team to have shown the reaction.

“We will be consistent with our statements. I said from the first day, there will be ups and downs. We saw within the game today a down but also an up.”
