Arsenal have terminated the contract of winger Reiss Nelson prior to the transfer deadline.

The Englishman was already surplus to requirements, and it was reported that he could move to West Ham United.

With the lack of progress in talks, the Gunners have decided to mutually terminate the contract of their graduate.

In that way, he would have more time on his hands before Tuesday’s transfer deadline to discuss terms with another club.

The Hammers have not closed the door on signing him, but they are not alone, with clubs from abroad also keeping tabs.

Valencia and Benfica are also admirers of the versatile winger and the latter could emerge as possible candidates to sign him.

Benfica are managed by Marco Silva, who was previously the manager of Fulham, when Nelson spent time on loan at the club.

Silva shares a good bond with Nelson and could tempt the 26-year-old to move to the Portuguese top-flight in the near future.
