The latest ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings have brought several notable changes following the opening match of the World Test Championship (WTC) series between Australia and Bangladesh. The latest update has seen movements among some of the biggest names in Test cricket, while several players have also achieved important career milestones.

The changes come after a memorable contest in Darwin, where both teams produced individual performances that had a direct impact on the latest rankings. The updated list has also created an interesting battle among the leading Test batters.

Harry Brook returns to the top of Test batting rankings

England batter Harry Brook has reclaimed the No.1 position in the ICC Test batting rankings for the fourth time in his career. He first reached the summit in December 2024 and has now returned to the top following the latest update. Australia’s Travis Head has dropped three places to fourth after managing scores of 22 and 17 in the first Test against Bangladesh.

His fall has allowed both Joe Root and Steve Smith to move above him. Smith climbed to third after producing scores of 71 and 44 in Darwin, while Root moved into second place. The gap between the top four batters is only 33 rating points, meaning the rankings could change again following upcoming Test matches.

Najmul Hossain Shanto reaches career-best position

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto enjoyed a major rise after contributing 84 runs during his team’s nine-wicket victory over Australia. The knock helped Shanto climb nine places to a career-best 20th position with 659 rating points. He is now the sixth-highest-ranked Bangladesh batter in terms of rating points.

Mominul Haque also moved up five places to 31st, while Shadman Islam climbed three spots to 58th. Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan made an especially notable jump, rising 84 places to equal 88th. Australia’s Cameron Green also advanced five positions to 30th after scoring a century in the second innings.

Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan make gains in bowling rankings

Bangladesh’s bowlers were also rewarded for their match-winning performances in Darwin. Hasan Mahmud climbed 26 places to 38th after taking six wickets for 55 runs in the first innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz moved three places to 24th after claiming five wickets for 66 runs in Australia’s second innings.

His performance played an important role in helping Bangladesh complete a memorable victory. India’s Jasprit Bumrah continues to occupy the No.1 position in the Test bowling rankings despite missing the first Test against Sri Lanka.
