Sylvester Stallone and Amazon are officially teaming up.

The actor and filmmaker is teaming up with Amazon MGM Studios to adapt a bestselling, three-book novel series into a TV show. Stallone’s involvement in TV has been amping up in recent years, most notably because of his starring role as Dwight Manfredi on the Paramount+ crime series Tulsa King. He also starred in the short-lived reality TV series The Family Stallone, and served as an executive producer on the reality TV show Extracted. He’ll also be an executive producer for the upcoming Frisco King spinoff, for which he’ll reprise his role as Manfredi.

Now, Deadline confirms that Stallone’s Balboa Productions will be teaming up with both Amazon’s MGM Television and Sophia Stallone’s Callisto Media for Bourbon & Lies. The TV show is based on The Bourbon Boys romantic suspense novel series by Victoria Wilder, following former police officer Grant Foxx in the fictional town of Fiasco, Kentucky. While trying to live a quiet life, town newcomer Laney Young begins working at the Foxx family distillery, becoming closer with Grant. But, as time goes on, he uncovers a number of lies and suspenseful secrets from her past that could spell disaster.

The show follows not only Laney’s past but Fiasco’s secrets, with her and Grant grappling with an ever-evolving truth that takes them places they never thought possible. The TV adaptation of the three-book series will be overseen by D. Matt Geller of Balboa Productions. As for the hands-on creative team, The Flight Attendant showrunners Meredith Lavender and Marcie Ulin serve as creators and executive producers. Sophia Stallone and Victoria Wilder released statements about the show’s production as well, teasing what to expect from the TV adaptation:

It has romance, danger, heat, humor, family, mystery and a woman at the center whose past refuses to stay buried. I brought it to Balboa because it felt like exactly the kind of bold, addictive and emotionally charged storytelling female audiences are already driving into the mainstream.

Victoria Wilder: It’s truly an exciting time to witness book-to-screen adaptations within the romance genre. Seeing these characters and their stories brought to life on screen is something I had never expected. I truly feel lucky that this powerhouse team of women are the ones making it happen. There’s no doubt in my mind that they’re ready to deliver everyone’s next series obsession.

Bourbon & Lies, the first book in Wilder’s The Bourbon Boys series, was a Number 1 bestseller on Amazon in 2024, following its release from publishing company Bloom Books. The announcement of the forthcoming TV show arrives as Wilder continues to expand it as a franchise: A spinoff series, The Whiskey Women, began in June of this year with the release of its first book, Rumors & Whiskey. The series has maintained popularity as new installments deepened the mystery Grant and Laney find themselves entwined in.

This marks the third in-production TV show that Stallone serves as an executive producer for, the other two being the aforementioned Tulsa King and Frisco King. What’s interesting about Bourbon & Lies is that it’s yet another Amazon book adaptation following a plethora of additional announcements over the last year. This includes the upcoming Fourth Wing TV show, based on Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series. Holly Black’s fantasy quartet The Folk of the Air is also getting an adaptation, with Ridley Scott’s production company attached.

As development of the series progresses, more information will likely be revealed on how similar or different Bourbon & Lies will be to its book counterpart. But, with Sylvester Stallone and Sophia Stallone having major roles in its production, it seems like the TV show will stay true to Wilder’s vision, even if there are some changes to accommodate an on-screen retelling.
