Orjan Nyland claimed he is “not very concerned” about his game time at RB Leipzig this season.

The goalkeeper signed a two-year deal with the Bundesliga club after his contract with Sevilla expired at the end of June.

This is Nyland’s second spell with Leipzig after signing as a short-term replacement when both Peter Gulacsi and Janis Blaswich picked up injuries during the 2022-23 season.

The 35-year-old also featured for Norway at the World Cup this summer, helping them reach the quarter-finals.

He was one of four goalkeepers to save a penalty at the tournament, denying Bruno Guimaraes from the spot in the last 16, while he also made the joint-seventh-most saves (16).

Nyland believes his performances at the World Cup show why he will get minutes with Leipzig this season.

“I know I will get my game time, so I’m not very concerned about that,” Nyland told Bulinews.com

“I’m here to play as much as I can, and that’s my goal for the time here.

“I demonstrated my level and my qualities at the World Cup. I think that has spoken enough about me. That’s why they [RB Leipzig] signed me, and that’s why they want to use me as well.

“I know the club from before. It’s a club with ambitions, fighting on three different stages – both in the league, in the Champions League and in the cup, where we had success the last time I was here, which was a very positive thing and something I still remember very, very highly.”

Nyland will battle 24-year-old Maarten Vandevoordt for the number one spot at Leipzig, who begin their Bundesliga campaign on August 29 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach.
