Fallout, despite a relatively sparse number of releases over the years, has managed to enjoy an enduring legacy, one seemingly unbothered by the abysmal release of its inarguably worst (and yet best improved) game to date and its long history with bugs, glitches, and a myriad of amusingly viral moments. It is as a consequence of this legacy that Fallout continues to flourish and grow into an IP that gets people excited, one that, with a mere whisper, can have fans speculating wildly and believing a new release is just around the corner.

Well, in this instance, there truly is a brand-new Fallout release just around the corner. While it isn’t quite the massive Fallout 5 official announcement many are likely hoping for, this new Fallout expansion, titled Into the Wasteland, will not only make one of its best games so much better, but will surprisingly serve as a great jumping on point for newcomers who’ve been inspired to check out its fascinating and immersive wasteland thanks to the TV show.

There is a lot going on with the Fallout IP now that Xbox has seemingly remembered its importance. An official Fallout 3 remaster is in the works and is likely to be released sooner rather than later. Fallout 76 is amazingly still supported by its dedicated team of developers, something that shouldn’t really astound anymore considering just how miraculous of an upgrade the game is now compared to when it first released. Even the peripheral Fallout media, such as TTRPGs and miniature games continue to get a lot of love from their respective creators.

Such is the case with Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, a phenomenal tabletop game in which players command a crew of miniatures in PvP, solo, or co-operative modes. The lesser-known tabletop wargame has been excellent since it was released back in 2018, but has undergone a lot of changes and still lacks the visibility that it truly needs. Fortunately, a brand-new expansion, the aforementioned Into the Wastelands, is designed to change that and, hopefully, bring a whole new cohort of players into the experience.

While Wasteland Warfare is typically aimed at co-operative or PvP-minded players, Into the Wasteland is a largely solo-focused expansion that feels better suited to both fans of the single-player video games and the recent TV series. Available now via the game’s developer’s official website, Into the Wasteland gives players a whole new rulebook that expands the enemy AI, adds a mini-campaign, includes options for custom heroes, new scenario rules, areas, and so much more. It also comes with 112 cards to go alongside the new ruleset.

This rulebook makes the AI-controlled characters feel far more alive and reactive, rather than being a group of enemies awaiting the player’s arrival with the intention of stopping them. Into the Wastelands essentially turns Wasteland Warfare into Fallout the video game, by introducing neutral AI-controlled characters with their own objectives and goals. It’s a nice addition to an already incredible tabletop experience, and perfect for those looking for a more direct translation of the video game to miniature wargaming than Wasteland Warfare previously offered.

Ostensibly, this expansion is the perfect entry point for those looking to get into the Fallout-themed tabletop wargame. Of course, you’ll still need the miniatures and official rulebook, but those are also being made available through various starter kits. For those looking for something fun to play while awaiting the upcoming Fallout 3 remaster, or simply those who’ve been interested in Wasteland Warfare and want to dig in deeper, Into the Wastelands could be the perfect expansion for you, and is, at the very least, another great Fallout product.
