The Buccaneers is making a comeback.
Apple TV’s own Bridgerton, titled The Buccaneers, is based on author Edith Wharton’s final unfinished novel before she died in 1937. Wharton was a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, and her novel reflects the real Gilded Age history surrounding wealthy American “dollar princesses” marrying British aristocracy for social status. The series is set in the 1870s, showing the difference between rigid British tradition and bold Americans and their idea of society.
The Buccaneers star Alisha Boe, known for 13 Reasons Why, shared an exciting update on Instagram with a post and story stating that season 3 has officially wrapped filming, and her post was captioned “See u in 2027 🔪♥️🙈💋.” Boe shared photos sat alongside co-stars Imogen Waterhouse, Kristine Frøseth, Josie Totah, and Aubri Ibrag, as well as a video raising a glass to celebrate the end of production. Frøseth also shared the update on Instagram with a carousel of images of season 3’s production in Scotland.
“Our Buccaneers are fighting back. And they’re doing it together. When they arrived in England they were all navigating their first loves. Now, they’re looking for the loves of their lives, and with a new and enigmatic Duke at the helm, Tintagel is also facing an uncertain future. If polite English society thought our American girls rocked the boat, this new bad-boy Duke is about to sink the ship.”
The Buccaneers season 2 concluded in 2025, and Apple TV has yet to reveal an official release date for season 3, but Boe has confirmed it will air sometime in 2027. Series creator Katherine Jakeways celebrated news of the season 3 renewal with a statement which read:
“We couldn’t be more delighted to be lacing up our corsets, slipping on our ball gowns, and running breathless across the cliffs of Tintagel for the third time to see what passionate adventures our beloved Buccaneers get up to next. Huge thanks to Apple TV and also to the devoted viewers for loving the show as much as we do.”
Christina Hendricks, Guy Remmers, Matthew Broome, and Barney Fishwick are all expected to return for The Buccaneers season 3, but Mia Threapleton and Leighton Meester’s roles remain uncertain as to whether they will return for Apple TV’s new season. However, The Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley has joined the series and will play Frank, “who is a mysterious but charming stranger who arrives into Nan and Mrs. St. George’s world, turning it upside down.”
The Buccaneers is available to stream on Apple TV and season 3 will be released sometime in 2027.
