Arteta on Merino’s injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on midfielder Mikel Merino following the 1-1 Premier League draw against Everton on the road on Saturday.

The Gunners played out a frustrating stalemate against the Toffees at Goodison Park. Leandro Trossard put them deservedly ahead, but Everton equalised from the penalty spot.

Mikel Merino had a cut on his head in the opening half, but managed to continue playing for the entirety of the game.

Speaking after the stalemate, Arteta said that the Spaniard is fine and he was not feeling anything despite the bleeding.

He said: “He’s fine, I just checked with the doctor. He had a cut, so he was bleeding quite a lot in the first half. Then he started again, so overall he wasn’t feeling anything.”

Arsenal are 11 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, but the Merseyside giants have a game in hand against Fulham on the road.

With just seven matches left in the campaign, the title race seems over. Arsenal must fully concentrate on the Champions League.
