Alyssa Healy delivers a witty response to Mitchell Starc’s withdrawal from Champions Trophy 2025

The Australian cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, as ace pacer Mitchell Starc has opted out of the tournament due to personal reasons. His absence could significantly impact Australia’s campaign as they aim to reclaim the title they last won in 2009.

Alyssa Healy’s reaction on Mitchell Starc’s absence from Champions Trophy 2025

While Starc’s withdrawal came as a surprise to many, his wife, Australian women’s team captain Alyssa Healy, assured fans that the fast bowler is in good health. Addressing the situation on the Willowtalk podcast, Healy gave a lighthearted response when asked about Starc’s decision.

“Don’t look at me, I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t asked him about it yet,” she quipped, adding to the mystery surrounding her husband’s absence.

Despite speculation regarding a potential injury, Healy dismissed any serious concerns. When the host suggested that Starc may need a break after a demanding workload in recent months, she nodded in agreement but reassured fans, saying, “He’s fine, everyone. I am fine more importantly. Yeah, we are fine. Move on.”

Starc, 35, recently played seven consecutive Test matches, including five in the home series against India. He was also Australia’s only pace bowler in both Tests against Sri Lanka in Galle, where he claimed six wickets despite spin-friendly conditions.

Given Starc’s recent workload, his decision to withdraw suggests a need for rest and recovery ahead of future international commitments.

Alyssa Healy to miss the WPL 2025

Meanwhile, Healy herself will miss the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) due to an injury, marking a challenging period for the cricketing couple. In her absence Deepti Sharma will lead the UP Warriorz.

Australia are set to begin their Champions Trophy campaign against England on February 22 in Lahore. With Starc’s absence, the team will need to rely on its other pace options to step up and fill the void left by their seasoned spearhead.
