The Lord of the Rings has been desperate for a win lately. The only one it’s had in the last little while, arguably, is Amazon Prime Video’s epic Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV series, which releases its third season this November. That said, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum could be quite divisive; on the one hand, it’s an Andy Serkis-directed Lord of the Rings movie, but, on the other hand, what its narrative will be like is unknown, and Aragorn being recast is a tough pill to swallow.

In terms of The Lord of the Rings games, the horizon finally seems bright. For instance, Kingdom Come developer Warhorse Studios is developing an open-world Middle-earth RPG, and that alone is reason enough to be hopeful about the IP being in the right hands in the future. Plus, thanks to files discovered on SteamDB, fans might even be able to get their hopes up about a possible remaster for a beloved Lord of the Rings game.

Per SteamDB, a wild remaster of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North titled ‘Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition’ has seemingly appeared. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North was delisted from Steam in 2019, and it’s quite unprecedented that it could possibly be coming back, this time with some sort of remastered edition.

While a remaster of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North (much less its ordinary Steam port simply being listed again) would be fantastic, it’s hardly the first remaster that many fans of The Lord of the Rings would probably request. The majority of that vote would more likely fall in favor of the movie tie-in game that is still hailed as the best Lord of the Rings game to this day, 23 years later: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Otherwise, a lot of fans also seem to have fond memories of The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, The Lord of the Rings’ turn-based RPG. Regardless, a Lord of the Rings: War in the North remaster is great news for Lord of the Rings and War in the North fans alike.

If we’re lucky, this remaster could be the first step toward a bunch of other Lord of the Rings remasters arriving in the future. If such a future is dependent on the success and popularity of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition, then fans better consider this remaster a series of beacons lit all across Middle-earth and swiftly answer its call for aid.
