Josko Gvardiol said he is determined to continue winning trophies at Manchester City under new manager Enzo Maresca.

Gvardiol joined City in 2023 from RB Leipzig for £77.5m (€90m) and has won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup and Community Shield so far during his time in Manchester.

The defender has helped City keeper 32 clean sheets from his 122 appearances across all competitions, and his efforts were rewarded with a new contract on Tuesday.

The Croatia international signed a new five-year deal at Etihad Stadium, despite still having two years on his previous contract.

Gvardiol thrived at City under Guardiola, and he is now looking to do the same under Maresca.

“Being here, being surrounded by all these great names, players and characters, seeing them every day, training and pushing harder and harder, we achieved a lot of things together,” the 24-year-old told the club website.

“My only wish is that we continue that way. I am really looking forward to being here, staying here and playing here for many, many years.

“It’s been three years and we have achieved a lot of things here. Also the new manager is here!

“This is the right club for me and my family as well. I have everything I need here and I’ve said it many times, I really like it here in Manchester.

“I still think there are a lot of things to improve and learn but I’m only 24, I have enough time.”

After pre-season friendlies against Inter, Atletico Madrid and the K-League Stars, City’s first competitive game of the season comes against Arsenal in the Community Shield.

Their Premier League campaign starts a week later against Bournemouth.
