Michael Giacchino comments on his return for The Batman Part II.

Directed once again by Matt Reeves, the sequel to 2022’s The Batman remains one of DC’s most hotly anticipated releases. Robert Pattinson is slated to return to lead The Batman 2‘s cast as the Caped Crusader, alongside a number of other key creatives, but a composer for the movie hasn’t yet been announced.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Tatiana Hullender on the Spider-Man: Brand New Day red carpet, Giacchino, who composed the score for The Batman, shares a promising update on his return chances for Part II. Though no deals have been signed just yet, he reveals that he can’t imagine Reeves moving forward with a different composer. Check out Giacchino’s comment below:

I don’t think there’s a world where Matt Reeves would allow me not to be involved. He and I are such good friends, and I love working with Matt more than anybody, he’s the greatest. We still have a little bit of time for that. Good things come to those who wait.

Giacchino has an incredibly impressive resume as a composer, both in the world of superheroes and beyond. In addition to composing all four of the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, he’s previously worked with Reeves on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).

Other movies Giachino has composed include The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), Society of the Snow (2023), all three Jurassic World movies, the three most recent Star Trek movies, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). Giacchino, then, would make for a strong addition to The Batman: Part II, especially since the 2022 film’s score was singled out as a major highlight.

The Batman sequel started filming in June in the UK. Though previously slated to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, the start of filming coincided with an announcement that the movie’s release date has been pushed back to February 18, 2028.

When a composer joins a film varies depending on the project and the director, but a composer’s work often begins during post-production once a rough cut has been edited together. Considering there’s likely still several months of filming left for The Batman 2, it’s not necessarily unusual that the movie doesn’t have a composer locked down yet.

If Giacchino does join The Batman sequel, he’ll be joining a film with a great deal of hype attached to it. In addition to Pattinson, the follow-up features returning stars like Andy Serkis, Jeffery Wright, Colin Farrell, and Jayme Lawson.

The list of newcomers is equally impressive. The Batman 2‘s cast will also include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch.

Given Giacchino’s latest comment and The Batman Part II‘s continued production, an announcement regarding a composer may not be too far off. If Giacchino does return, the film will clearly be in good hands.
