Fallout 5 Official Announcement Unveils The Start Of A New Era

In case you missed all of the madness, after an extremely long and frustrating period of radio silence, Bethesda Game Studios went a bit mad and confirmed all sorts about what they have going on at the moment with Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. So much so that they are now being accused of using the announcements to run cover for planned layoffs, which they’ll have to navigate with their own employees’ union.

Those layoffs are extensive, with more than 3200 employees at Xbox expected to be laid off, with more than half of those already out the door. As you might expect, this has led to questions about how all could possibly be going to plan, but the developer has now responded, and they’re insistent that things are still on track.

As first reported by Eurogamer, the YouTuber MrMattyPlays sent some questions over to Bethesda, and they were actually oddly forthcoming in their responses. As well as confirming that development on The Elder Scrolls VI is unaffected (somehow), they also confirmed that their recent raft of Fallout announcements is part of a bold new era for the company.

Essentially, they confirmed that remakes for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are on the way, as well as Fallout 5 being in pre-production and a franchise project now underway at Obsidian Entertainment. Dropping all of that information on players heads at once is pretty unprecedented, and it would be a fair assumption that owners Xbox forced their hand a little, but Bethesda claims this isn’t the case.

“Look, we read the internet too,” the studio supposedly told the YouTuber. “All of our fans and plenty of creators have been asking for us to lay out our road map for a long time. As bits of info or announcements come out individually, they get lost in the larger picture of all we’re doing as a studio.

“So, we felt it was best to do it all at once and paint a clear picture for everyone. This is a shift in our approach to communication that Bethesda Game Studios has been contemplating for some time now.”

As fans, all we can really do is hope that one of the new Fallout projects is in our hands before too long, as it really has been a very long time since a major game has come along in the series. Remake or otherwise, it would just be great to explore the post-apocalypse once again, no matter how grim it might be.
