The best free games on Steam are, naturally, the biggest, as they offer the most bang for your proverbial and, in this case, non-existent buck. However, when the offerings themselves are shorter, Steam makes sure to deliver them in vast quantities, as is the case with this round of completely free downloads. Rather than delivering just one or two, Steam has curated 48 different free downloads for users to get and keep. The only catch is there’s just 24 hours to grab them before they’re gone.

As part of the ongoing Steam Train Fest 2026 event, a number of participating games have received both hefty discounts and completely free demos. In fact, there are well over 100 demos available during the event, with each of them offering a completely different experience to the last, despite the event implying it’ll all be train-related. These demos range from lengthy slices of the full experience to a quick taste of what is on offer, but all are absolutely worth downloading.

While one may expect all of these free Steam downloads to revolve around managing trains (and plenty of them do), the Steam Train Fest 2026 event really encompasses any game that remotely involves a train. There’s the tower defense title Australia Did It, the FPS base builder EverRail, the cozy cat game Cat Isle, the RTS game Last Train Home, the cozy sim Locomoto, the roguelike shoot ’em up Endless Rails, and the boss rush rhythm game, Wiseman: No More Breakups, to name just a few.

All the aforementioned games, and many more have free demos that can be downloaded via the Steam Train Fest 2026’s official page. Of course, as stated, the catch is that these demos are only available for a short while. The event ends on July 27, meaning there’s just 24 hours to grab as many of them as possible. Most of these demos will likely stick around long after the event has ended, although some of them will be restricted to just the event, so it’s worth checking on each game’s Steam page to see how long it’ll be available for.

This isn’t the first time there’s been a massive free Steam game drop, but it is one of the biggest in recent memories.
