Reacher may have a long road ahead.

Prime Video’s action hit is already preparing to debut season 4, while work on season 5 is officially underway. With plenty of Lee Child novels still left to adapt, star Alan Ritchson has now revealed just how long he’d like to keep playing Jack Reacher.

During an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ritchson was asked how many seasons he could realistically see Reacher lasting. The actor revealed that he already has a milestone in mind, explaining that he hopes to play the character for 10 seasons.

“I’d love to get to 10. It just seems like a really cool number and it would honor everybody — the audience that supported it, Amazon and the work that they did to make this thing what it is, and Lee and his work and all that.”

Ritchson’s goal doesn’t seem quite as far-fetched as it once might have. Prime Video has already renewed Reacher through season 5, with filming on the fifth installment now underway even before season 4 premieres. That production momentum suggests the streamer remains highly confident in one of its biggest original series.

Reaching the 10-season mark would also leave the creative team with plenty of decisions to make. Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series spans nearly 30 novels, giving the show no shortage of source material. However, the adaptation hasn’t followed the books in publication order, instead selecting stories that best fit the series. That flexibility has already sparked debate over which novel season 5 should adapt and whether the show should finally move away from one of its most familiar storytelling patterns, especially as the adaptation continues to evolve.

For now, Prime Video’s focus remains on season 4, which adapts Gone Tomorrow. The upcoming installment once again finds Reacher wandering into trouble after becoming entangled in a conspiracy that begins with a suspicious death on a New York City subway. The series has built its reputation on reinventing itself each season with a new location, supporting cast, and mystery while keeping Ritchson’s towering drifter at the center of every story.

If the series ultimately reaches Ritchson’s goal, it would cement Reacher as one of Prime Video’s longest-running scripted originals. With season 5 already in production and nearly two dozen Jack Reacher novels still available to adapt, the action thriller certainly has enough material to keep going for years to come.

Whether the show actually reaches 10 seasons remains to be seen, but Ritchson’s comments make it clear he’s committed to seeing the journey through. As production continues on season 5 and anticipation builds for season 4’s August premiere, the future of Reacher appears brighter than ever.
