Mario Kart Is Coming To PC August 2026

Some things are synonymous with each other. Whether it is branding or just good advertising, we associate certain games with a company. Take Nintendo, for example. When we think about Nintendo, we instantly think of characters like Samus, Link, Fox McCloud and a certain portly plumber who needs no introduction. When it comes to games, none are more closely associated with Nintendo than Mario Kart. So getting to play Mario Kart on PC sounds like a completely alien concept. Doesn’t it?

Well not anymore. Nintendo no longer has the monopoly on kart racers thanks to Patchzy over on YouTube. This creator recently announced the upcoming Mario Kart Wiicompiled for PC. This is a rebuilt version of Mario Kart Wii that was specifically designed to run on PC. A faithful port that takes this classic Nintendo title and opens it up to a new generation of gamers. All the retro racing glory of yesteryear with no nunchuk or Wii remote required.

This fully working PC version of Mario Kart Wii will enter beta in August 2026 and will include over 200 tracks to get to grips with. Ports and faithful remakes of Wii games are few and far between and Mario Kart Wii is definitely high on most Nintendo fans wishlist. The port will also include the optional Retro Rewind feature, which adds some modern conveniences for PC users. Skidding off the track for the hundredth time on Rainbow Road can now be rectified with a simple button press, although you might lose some friends pressing rewind in the process.

With the beta for Mario Kart Wiicompiled launching next month, the sky is the limit for the dedicated modding community. New characters, upscaled models, shinier vehicles and hard-as-nails community-created tracks are almost a given at this point. Fancy cruising around Moo Moo Meadows in a Hyundai Tucson with Macho Man Randy Savage behind the wheel? Well, if the community demands it, modders will make it happen! The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TIme remake isn’t the only Nintendo game to get excited about this year.

The announcement trailer for Mario Kart Wiicompiled shows off just how well this game can run. Super smooth frame rates and faithful visuals that look crisp in high resolution. Opening this game up to PC users, and indeed, just having a build that exists on PC, teases huge potential for future content for Mario Kart Wii. Wii recomps are completely new, but it seems like we’re at the start of something truly special with this and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland also being announced recently.

Nintendo fans have a lot to rejoice about this year so far. Not only do we have multiple Zelda releases to look forward to in September, but we’re also getting a collection of classic Nintendo games that most fans will be unfamiliar with. Add to that, free unofficial ports of Wii games to PC like Mario Kart and Kirby, and it almost feels like a retro renaissance for Nintendo. Now it’s time to brush up on my ninja-like reflexes in anticipation of Mario Kart Wiicompiled arriving in August.
