Kane admits playing golf with President Trump ‘surreal’ ahead of England’s World Cup quarter-final

Harry Kane has revealed he once played golf with United States President Donald Trump, describing the experience as “surreal” ahead of England’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

The England captain will lead the Three Lions out in Miami on Saturday as they bid to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2018.

Speaking before the clash with Norway, Kane revealed he spent time on the golf course with Trump in Florida around 18 months ago after receiving an invitation from the future president.

The Bayern Munich striker admitted it was an opportunity he could hardly turn down.

“I played alright to be honest,” Kane said.

“He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. So yeah, when the president invites you somewhere…

“It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him.”

Kane added that Trump impressed him with his ability on the course.

“His golf is pretty good, to be honest with you.

“I hope I can play golf as good as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure.

“A unique experience, but I was just grateful that he invited me to play.”

Trump, 80, recently confirmed the pair had played together and spoke warmly about the England skipper following the Three Lions’ dramatic last-16 victory over Mexico.

Kane scored his sixth goal of the tournament in England’s 3-2 win at the Estadio Azteca and has also registered an assist during the competition.

The United States president described Kane as both an elite footballer and an accomplished golfer.

“I think Kane is a great player,” Trump said.

“I played golf with him and I like him a lot.

“He’s a good golfer too. He’s really great.”
