Wissing named as Conceicao’s successor at Al-Ittihad

Al-Ittihad have named Jens Wissing as their new head coach, following Sergio Conceicao’s departure.

Conceicao left by mutual consent at the start of June after just nine months in charge, following a disappointing 2025-26 season.

Al-Ittihad finished the campaign fifth in the Saudi Pro League, ending up 31 points behind champions Al-Nassr after suffering 11 losses (W16 D5).

They were also knocked out of the AFC Champions League in the quarter-finals by Machida Zelvia, and Wissing has been tasked with getting them back challenging for trophies.

He has signed a two-year contract through to June 2028 with the 14-time Pro League winners, after leaving J1 League club Gamba Osaka.

In just six months with the Japanese side, he won the AFC Champions League Two trophy, beating Al-Nassr 1-0 in the final.

Wissing leaves Gamba Osaka with a 33.3% win rate, having won just eight of his 24 games in charge (D10 L6).

In a statement released on social media, Al-Ittihad said sporting director Frank Capo expressed “full confidence in his ability to lead the team during the next chapter.”

His first game in charge will be a King Cup of Champions round-of-32 tie against Al-Najma.
