Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is still at its core the game we all know and love, but the remake has received a plethora of major changes that make it feel like an entirely fresh experience with plenty of new content to enjoy. Even putting aside the new mechanics, storylines, and abilities introduced in the remake, Black Flag Resynced is still an experience that gets better the more you play and learn about how it functions.
Thankfully, if you haven’t started yet or have even put in a few dozen hours for yourself into Black Flag Resynced already, you can still take advantage of some of these tips to improve your experience, and allow you to enjoy everything Ubisoft’s latest remake has to offer.

Prioritizing Synchronization Points Saves Headaches Later On
While Synchronization Points are an instantly recognizable staple of any Assassin’s Creed game at this point, they’re even more essential when it comes to collecting all the invaluable upgrades and currency scattered across each city. While you can certainly make do by trying to find things yourself, or use Synchronization Points when you come across them, scouting out and using each vantage point will make finding things more natural while playing.
Unlike many of its predecessors, almost every collectible in Black Flag Resynced is a worthwhile resource rather than a simple checklist, being used to unlock a variety of cosmetic upgrades, weapons, treasure, or even sea shanties to enjoy while cruising around the Caribbean.

Hunting Animals In Bulk Is Way Faster Than Individually
If you want to upgrade Edward’s equipment, purchase specific ship cosmetics, or simply make a bit of extra coin, one thing you’ll be doing plenty of in Black Flag Resynced is hunting animals. While Black Flack Resynced does make things simple by showing each animal’s location on the map, you’re far better off hunting by convenience rather than need.
Animals frequently drop bones when killed as well, which can be traded for animal furs at the general store or required for some shop purchases.
Instead of waiting around until you need a specific animal hide, you’re much better off clearing out the local population of whichever island you’re on while playing normally, and if you happen to need a specific animal hide for a recipe, it’s worth visiting large hubs like Tulum, Nassau, Cape Bonavista, and more to save you time down the road when you need others.

Don’t Waste Your Healing Items While On Land
One thing you’ll notice while playing Black Flag Resynced is that there isn’t a direct way to upgrade the number of health vials you have on hand for yourself, relying solely on the 3 that Edward has to stay healthy during combat. While this is a perfectly fine way to heal while boarding a ship or during a lengthy fight, it’s best to avoid using your healing items when outside of combat.
Regardless of which island you visit, by simply walking around or looting the area, you’ll come across dozens of cooked food, berries, and wine just scattered about for you to consume that will restore marginal amounts of health without any cost to yourself, making them an excellent way to keep your health topped up while playing.

Don’t Sell All Your Trade Goods Right Away
While my original tip for trade goods was that you should regularly check to sell them off at a nearby general store, Black Flag Resynced makes it seem like there’s really no other purpose but to sell off these materials for some extra coin. Despite fetching some nice pocket change, it’s far better to have a moderate stockpile of trade-in goods and sell off the extras when they come in, rather than all at once.
Not only are some trade-in goods used for a number of store recipes, but you can also trade them in through your fleet for a drastically higher profit than just selling them by yourself, turning what could be hundreds of coins into thousands, all passively from Edwards manor (or the Jackdaw) after you’ve unlocked the ability to use it.

Forts & Islands Are Worth Capturing Early On
If you’re like me and enjoy coasting through Black Flag Resynced without stopping to fully complete every island one by one, but rather where the wind takes you, then you’ll likely have several question marks on your map that you’ll get to eventually. While this is perfectly fine on its own, the sheer size of Black Flag Resynced‘s map can make getting around an incredibly arduous task unless you have a fast travel point nearby.
Forts also provide a massive amount of trade-in goods, open the area for your fleet, and can unlock exclusive upgrades for your ship.
You don’t even have to do much to claim an island as a fast travel point either, as simply entering the docking zone will mark it on your map to travel to, although forts do require you to capture them if you want to use them as a waypoint in the future.

You Don’t Need To Fight & Board Every Ship You See
The minute you unlock the ability to take on other vessels, it can be more than a little tempting to simply plunder every ship you come across, but it isn’t always worth the effort. With how much naval combat there is to go around already, you should focus on only going after ships that either have desirable cargo, need repairs, or are looking for a new ship to add to Edward’s fleet.
Thankfully, Black Flag Resynced already has a built-in way to check if a ship has the goods you’re looking for by looking at it with Edward’s spyglass. Showing both its rank and all available cargo you’ll get from sinking it, the spyglass is an excellent habit to get into, as even some fleets might not have what you need at the time, and could put you at more risk of sinking than it’s worth.

Difficult Settings Make A Huge Gameplay Difference
One gameplay attribute introduced in Black Flag Resynced that wasn’t available in the original is customizable difficulty options, allowing you to choose the challenge of Combat, Stealth, Naval Combat, and Activities. The options for each are split between an easier mode for newer players, a medium difficulty that supposedly closely matches the original game, and a harder one for experienced players to challenge themselves with.
These difficulty settings can completely change the feel of gameplay, with hard mode forcing you to learn and fully engage with all of Black Flag‘s mechanics to succeed. While a choice like this is ultimately up to personal preference, I’ve found hard combat, normal stealth, and normal activities to be a great balance between the two, although you can change these at any time in the gameplay settings menu.

Progressing The Story Opens The Door To More Engaging Activities
While it can certainly be tempting to forego the main story of Black Flag Resynced in favor of taking to the seas on your own personalized adventure, several mechanics, questlines, and activities can only be unlocked by playing through the campaign. You don’t have to get very far either, as the first couple of sequences are all you need to get access to Edward’s grapple rope, darts, and the ability to go diving for invaluable treasure hordes.
Even if you do want to focus on side content first, I would at least recommend playing the campaign until you unlock the diving bell upgrade for the Jackdaw, as that will get you access to a majority of the side content there is to explore in Black Flag Resynced.
2
Upgrade Your Hideout As Soon As Possible
While several of the hideout upgrades on Great Inagua may hardly seem worth the investment, depending on your playstyle, the rest of the buildings offer some excellent rewards or stock that are invaluable in the early game of Black Flag Resynced. From granting access to powerful weapons at the general store, unlocking every Jackdaw upgrade, or purchasing pelts rather than having to hunt them each time, Inagua is an excellent investment for your coins.
It isn’t just access to shops that makes upgrading your hideout worth it, either, as there are several milestones tied to the system, like upgrading all buildings and amassing a certain amount of wealth that will grant you some of the coolest cosmetics that Black Flag Resynced has to offer.

Understanding The Animus System Offers Exclusive Rewards
One of the biggest changes by far in Black Flag Resynced comes in the form of the new Animus Hub and events added to the game, which offer limited events, lore, and exclusive rewards you can’t get anywhere else. While the system can be more than a bit confusing at first, taking a bit of time to understand it and engage with the optional content will grant you some powerful weapons and unique cosmetics.
Aside from the Synchronization Points you’ll be saving up to buy legendary weapons from past Assassin’s Creed protagonists, you’ll have to choose between three projects that you’ll be devoting your weekly Data Fragments. While you’ll start off with Riptides, several of the project rewards are exclusive to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with only Eye in the Dark having a final reward available to claim in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced itself.
