Uncharted 5 Nathan Drake Replacement Leaves Gamers Torn

Often referred to as the “female Lara Croft“, Nathan Drake has made a name for himself courtesy of the Uncharted franchise by Naughty Dog. First introduced in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune back in 2007, the adventurer and supposed descendant of Sir Francis Drake captured our hearts thanks to his strong-willed persona, as well as his humor.

Starring in all mainline Uncharted entries, up until his most recent adventure in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End back in 2016, the future remains uncertain for Nathan Drake. With no official confirmation of a potential Uncharted 5 and hints that Drake’s latest adventure may have been his last, it remains to be seen if the franchise will continue, and if so, who will become our brand-new protagonist.

Of course, this is all worth taking with a pinch of salt. Not only has Naughty Dog not commented on the future of the Uncharted franchise, as it currently works on development for brand-new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, there is also no saying if Nathan Drake’s story is truly over. After all, stranger things have happened in gaming than an old man doing parkour in dangerous locations.

That being said, fans of the Uncharted franchise over on r/ItsAllAboutGames have recently been discussing Nathan’s possible replacement if an Uncharted 5 was to come to fruition.

“Cassie, Sam or Chloe? Fans debate who should lead a possible Uncharted 5,” the post reads. “What do you think? Cassie, Sam or Chloe – who should lead Uncharted 5? Or would you rather see a young Sully spin-off?”

With plenty of possible candidates, it is obvious that each fan will have their own ideas on how the hit Naughty Dog franchise should continue. As such, some took to the comments to share their thoughts on our Uncharted 5 protagonist.

“I want Uncharted left alone,” the top comment read simply, to which another fan replied, “Personally, I agree. A Thief’s End was the perfect conclusion to the series; if they made more, I’d rather see another spin-off like The Lost Legacy. To be honest, I don’t think they’ll revisit Uncharted now. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet looks interesting, and we might still see another TLOU game. Personally. I just want them to get back to Jak and Daxter…”

Another user suggested Nathan’s daughter, Cassie, as a possible replacement. “A Thief’s End was a great way to end it. But you know if they think it’ll make money, they’ll keep beating a dead horse. So, best case scenario, we get Cassie continuing her parents’ legacy. Maybe even having them disapprove of it, encouraging her to go to college and have a normal life, but she won’t because, well, she’s Nathan’s kid after all.” Another agreed, adding, “Cassie, and Nate can be a sort of Sully that pulls her out of trouble at times. Or Cassie pulls her Dad out of trouble when he goes missing!”

It seems as though a potential Uncharted 5 remains a big area of discussion by fans, with no definitive answer on who should carry the torch if it ever was to be released. For now, however, we can safely assume that Nathan Drake has retired as Naughty Dog turns its attention elsewhere.
