Wolverine’s Bone Claws Officially Return To Marvel

The X-Men‘s 2026 return features several mutants from the comics, and Wolverine’s role includes a comeback of the bone claws. Marvel has many interesting characters spread across different corners. If you want street-level heroes, Daredevil and the rest of the Defenders are up for the task, with magic characters like the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange, globe-trotting heroes like the Avengers, and more.

Given the sheer size of the Marvel universe, many different teams have been formed throughout the years. In the live-action MCU franchise, the Avengers became the most popular of them, though teams like the Defenders, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and more also rose to become fan-favorites. Now, fans are patiently waiting for the MCU X-Men movie to debut the franchise’s version of the team.

That said, mutants like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool have already shown up in the MCU. Jackman’s take on Logan is iconic, as the actor first played the character all the way back in 2000’s X-Men. In over two decades, he has explored several different Wolverine stories and versions of the character from the comics, including when he had bone claws.

🐺

Wolverine (Logan)

“I’m the best there is at what I do. But what I do best isn’t very nice.”
You’re the fierce loner who acts first and philosophises later — but beneath that adamantium-plated exterior beats a heart that cares far more than you’d ever admit. You’ve been burned enough times to distrust the world, so you keep people at arm’s length, yet you’d throw yourself into any fight to protect the ones who slip past your defences. You don’t need a cause or a manifesto — you just need someone worth fighting for. Like Logan, your greatest strength isn’t your claws or your healing factor; it’s the stubborn refusal to let the people you love face danger alone.

Protective

Untamed

🧠

Professor X (Charles Xavier)

“Just because someone stumbles and loses their path, doesn’t mean they’re lost forever.”
You’re the visionary who sees the best in everyone — even when the world gives you every reason not to. Your greatest power isn’t telepathy; it’s an unshakeable belief that understanding and compassion can bridge any divide. You lead not through force but through hope, building bridges where others build walls. Some call you naive, but you know that real strength lies in extending a hand to your enemy. Like Charles Xavier, you carry the weight of a dream that most consider impossible, and you refuse to let it die.

Visionary
Empathetic
Diplomatic
Hopeful

🧲

Magneto (Erik Lehnsherr)

“Peace was never an option.”
You’re the survivor who learned the hardest lesson life has to offer: the world will not protect you, so you must protect yourself. Your conviction is unbreakable and your patience is terrifying — you’ll wait years to set the right plan in motion. You don’t hate humanity; you simply refuse to let your people be victims ever again. Every action you take, no matter how ruthless, is driven by a profound love for those who share your struggle. Like Erik Lehnsherr, you are both revolutionary and tragic — a leader forged in pain who will bend the world before it bends you.

Strategic

Now, X-Men ’97 season 2 is responsible for bringing the bone claws back into fashion in 2026. The first three episodes of the animated series are now streaming on Disney+, continuing the engaging plot of the show’s first season. The X-Men have been scattered through time, and Wolverine finds himself in another timeline alongside multiple mutants.

Wolverine’s Bone Claws Are Still Here

wolverine’s bone claws in x-men days of future past

It is true that X-Men ’97 comes as a major change of pace for Wolverine fans. After all, Logan was the main star of Fox’s X-Men movies. Viewers have gotten to watch Wolverine lead the X-Men and star in a solo trilogy, with characters like Cyclops, Rogue, and more playing smaller roles so that Jackman’s Marvel hero could shine. X-Men ’97 season 1 did away with that. Sure, Wolverine got some intense action sequences and had a compelling dynamic with Jean Grey, Cyclops, and others. However, Logan was not one of X-Men ’97‘s most important characters.

Still, he was the star of one of the most memorable events. In X-Men ’97 season 1, episode 9, Magneto and Wolverine fought, with the Master of Magnetism taking away the Adamantium from Wolverine’s skeleton. That nearly killed Wolverine, sidelining him for the rest of the season. In X-Men ’97 season 2’s first three episodes, Logan is back in action. Despite having been sent to the 40th century alongside other X-Men, Wolverine has yet to receive another Adamantium upgrade. In the meantime, he is using the bone claws Logan had before the Weapon X program full-time, changing Wolverine.

Will Wolverine Get His Adamantium Claws Back In X-Men ’97 Season 2?

It makes sense that Wolverine would start the new season of the Marvel Studios series with his bone claws. Even though Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and others have been sent to the 40th century, which has advanced technology, this reality is far from perfect. Ruled by Apocalypse, they are living in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future with the Askani Clan, who dedicate their existence to stopping Apocalypse. As such, there is not exactly time or resources to prioritize giving Wolverine his Adamantium claws back. That said, it is all set to change.

In X-Men ’97 season 2, episode 2, Nathan Summers sends Wolverine and the other X-Men back to their timeline. While we do not yet know how that will lead to Wolverine getting his signature claws back, this event is likely to go down that path. After all, Marvel shared an X-Men ’97 season 2 trailer that saw Wolverine popping out his claws, which were made of Adamantium, not bone, as he prepared for battle alongside a giant roster of mutants. They might still take some time to arrive, but Wolverine’s Adamantium claws are officially returning in X-Men ’97 season 2.
