Assassin’s Creed World War 2 “Perfect” Gameplay Blows Fans Away

Over the years, the Assassin’s Creed games have been to all sorts of time periods over the years, from the mythological air of Ancient Greece, to the wonders of Renaissance Italy. Everyone has their own favorites, but exploring historical events has always been a huge part of the appeal of the series.

As such, the relatively modern has generally been left out, largely to create a distinct difference between the modern story and the work being done in the Animus. That said, there were a couple of games that were already modern in their own right, and one in particular has fans calling for a major setting change in the series.

Assassin’s Creed Unity and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate were consecutive releases for Ubisoft, and they’re also two of the most recent chronologically. The really interesting thing about them, though, is that they both feature sojourns into other eras, specifically the World Wars that devastated the planet so much.

Syndicate features an optional WW1 side memory that’s great fun, but Unity takes players to the considerable chaos of the Second World War, and it’s a moment that continues to fascinate fans of the series.

Over on Twitter/X, one user shared a post detailing their love of that specific section of the game, saying, “I’ve always loved how Ubisoft threw World War II OUT OF NOWHERE into a French Revolution game and it turned out just PERFECT.”

Others were quick to chime in with how much they like it, with one saying, “All you need is an assassin’s creed game set in WW2 with swords, guns, driving at points. It would be both different and fun.”

While another added, “I needed more of this or this in a modern setting with Desmond! These sequences were so cool.”

Annother user explained a potential reason for WW2’s inclusion in the game, saying, “Apparently they wanted the story to take place over multiple times periods (medieval, revolution, WW2, modern), hence the name Unity, but due to time constraints had to pick one era. They repurposed these eras for the rifts so as not to totally waste the assets.”

The next big release for the Assassin’s Creed franchise sees us return to the Golden Age of Piracy once again, in Black Flag Resynced, a full remake of the beloved game of the same name. What comes after that remains to be seen, but with some issues at Ubisoft still ongoing, it may well be a while before we hear more.
