Man Utd midfielder suffers long-term knee injury

Ugarte out for long-term with knee injury

Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has suffered a long-term injury on international duty with Uruguay.

The 25-year-old has had a tough two seasons with the Red Devils, and it has been claimed that he could be offloaded this summer.

Galatasaray, Napoli and Atletico have been linked, but that door has been completely closed by his unfortunate setback last night.

Ugarte sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the first half of the World Cup group stage game against Spain yesterday.

United have yet to provide a formal update on his condition, but early reports suggest he could be sidelined for around 9 to 12 months.

The news is a huge blow for the Red Devils, who were planning to sign a third midfielder following the departure of the Uruguayan ace.

They may now need to pursue an extra midfield signing regardless of his stay. This could hamper their budget for purchasing a left back or a left winger.
