Norway are on course to book their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup, having taken the lead against Senegal.
The Scandinavian side were tentative in the opening stages against the African nation, with the game quickly opening up into an end-to-end contest.
But it took until the 43rd minute to find the breakthrough, and it was not Erling Haaland’s name on the scoresheet.
Instead, his team-mate Marcus Pedersen raced through on goal after Martin Odegaard’s through ball was poorly controlled by Kalidou Koulibaly.
The forward buried past Edouard Mendy at the near post, sending the New York crowd into a frenzy.
It could have been two at the break were it not for a strange miss from Haaland.
The Manchester City man showed his relentless hunger, pressing the Senegal goalkeeper with the ball at his feet.
And on this occasion, he stole the ball away from him, before turning and striking into the post, rather than an empty net.
He then saw a smart header saved by Mendy, and vented his frustrations as both teams headed in for half-time.
Norway remain on course to qualify though, with France having already done so following their win over Iraq.
