Prime Video’s Trending Show Is The New The Summer I Turned Pretty

When it comes to summer TV, no streamer provides a better experience than Prime Video. For many, summertime isn’t complete without romance, and the platform’s The Summer I Turned Pretty captured those dreamy seasonal vibes for three fantastic seasons. However, The Summer I Turned Pretty ended in 2025, leaving a void for Prime Video to fill.

Well, fill it they did, with their brand new romance series, Every Year After. Based on the novel Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, this is the first adaptation of the author’s work (with others in various stages of development). Every Year After centers on main characters Persephone “Percy” Fraser and Sam Florek, who meet, fall in love, and experience an intense breakup over the course of six summers in their teenage years. Now in their late twenties, Percy and Sam are thrown back into each other’s lives when she returns to his hometown for his mother’s funeral.

Critics weren’t raving about the Prime Video series, but it still scored a solid 73% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While I took issue with some aspects of Every Year After in my review, there’s no doubt that its summer vibes and supporting cast make it “a romance to remember.”

Audiences clearly agree, as Every Year After has been on Prime Video’s top 10 list of most-watched shows every day since it premiered on June 10, 2026, currently sitting at #2 behind only the smash-hit college romance Off Campus (via FlixPatrol). With The Summer I Turned Pretty also on the list at No. 9, it’s clear that Prime Video subscribers are all in on summer romance — which the platform delivers in spades.

Every Year After Is Poised To Become Prime Video’s Ultimate Summer Romance Show

Just like Heated Rivalry turned Canada into a tourism destination for romance fans, Every Year After will almost certainly do the same — even if the town of Barry’s Bay is actually located in Ontario, not British Columbia. A beautiful sun-dappled lake, a cozy, family-owned tavern, and opportunities for fun summer activities from fishing to grabbing an ice cream all perfectly set the stage to fall in love.

Every Year After excels as a summer romance show, not because its setting is an idyllic backdrop, but because it’s actively part of the story. The lake is where Percy first sees Sam and where she finds her confidence by building the stamina to swim across it, while The Tavern itself is a main character in Percy and Sam’s tumultuous relationship.

The series captures not just the wild highs of a summer romance, but also its sobering lows. It shows how easy it is for Every Year After‘s main characters to fall in love thanks to the insulated magic of the season, but also the inevitable looming reality that always comes after Labor Day weekend, and how turning short-term fun into lasting love is no easy feat. Every Year After is summer in a show, and if audiences keep tuning in, it’s destined to become a Prime Video classic.

Every Year After Has The Potential To Go On Much Longer Than The Summer I Turned Pretty

Though The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s sequel feature film is currently shooting and is a highly anticipated conclusion to the series, the fact that the beloved Prime Video show only lasted for three seasons is a bit of a bummer, especially for audiences who want to make yearly traditions out of their summer viewing.

However, this is where Every Year After could beat The Summer I Turned Pretty. Though Prime Video has yet to renew Every Year After for season 2, season 1’s cliffhanger ending makes it clear that the show has more story to tell.

Furthermore, showrunner Amy B. Harris told Entertainment Weekly that she envisions the series running for five seasons. While this would extend the TV series past the source material, which is sometimes a risky endeavor, a potential Every Year After season 2 has One Golden Summer, the Charlie-centric sequel novel, to adapt, with the season 1 finale already setting up that story.

In the same vein as a summer romance, a bright future for Every Year After is not guaranteed. However, like with Percy and Sam or Jordie and Chantal, genre fans are rooting for the show’s happily ever after. Let’s just hope that Prime Video hears our cries.
