Web Of Shadows Remastered Released, All Thanks To The Fans

Over the years, Spider-Man fans have actually done very well in the world of video games, with some genuinely brilliant adaptations over the years across a ton of different platforms. The most recent releases obviously stand out above the rest, technologically speaking, but earlier games still have a ton of appeal for fans.

Whatever your favorite happens to be, it’s always very nice to see those older games return to the fore, even if only to allow us to be nostalgic for a little while. Now, one older title has done just that, and it’s absolutely one you should try out if you didn’t when it originally released.

In case you missed it at the time, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows released all the way back in 2008 as three drastically different games (as was often the case back then). There was the Metroidvania-style approach taken for the Nintendo DS, a 2.5D side-scroller for the PS2 and PSP, as well as a 3D open world release for the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and PC.

The latter is undoubtedly the best of the bunch though, and it’s that release that brings us here today. Over on Twitter/X, the user Stormslayer, who has become known for remastering games, has confirmed the release of a shiny new version of Web of Shadows PS3 release, running via PC emulation.

“We’ve been cooking. Here’s one fresh out the oven. DON’T MISS IT! SPIDER-MAN: WEB OF SHADOWS (2008) -PC ENHANCED. HD resolution and unlocked frame rate (up to 240hz!). After years of being delisted, it’s once again playable! Enhanced for PC, VIA RPCS3, patched and configured. This is brought to you courtesy of Chad Warden, (absolute GOAT) on the Internet Archive,” the post reads.

It’s great to see the game return after years of it being unavailable for purchase in standard stores. Seeing it in this new form with greatly improved visuals is even better, and a genuine thrill if you’re a big Spidey fan.

Spider-Man and Venom in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

It also gives us plenty to do while we wait to see exactly what’s coming next for Spider-Man in the world of video games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is supposedly being developed by Insomniac Games at the moment, though that studio is heavily focused on Wolverine right now, as well as a standalone Venom release. That means we’re likely looking at a release date of 2028 or 2029 for that one, which gives us plenty of time to fill.
