Harry Potter might be one of the more recent fictional entries in the fantasy world, when compared with all-time greats like Lord of the Rings, but it has still managed to build up one of the biggest fan bases around. Though it doesn’t hold a candle to Tolkien’s work, in my very humble opinion, it makes sense that there are plenty of people out there who want to create products tied to the Wizarding World.
An obvious recent example is Hogwarts Legacy, which did spectacularly well for Avalanche Studios and Warner Bros., so much so that a sequel is already on the way. Now, there’s another product on the horizon that takes an entirely different approach, but which should be able to offer just as many hours of enjoyment to those willing to give it a chance.
As first reported by Tech Times, film prop and graphic design studio MinaLina, who previously worked on physical artifacts for the Harry Potter film adaptations, has collaborated with industrial designer David Waterman to bring their board game project Defenders of Hogwarts to Kickstarter.
Officially licensed by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, it’s set to launch on the crowdfunding service soon, with the developer sharing the following insight with potential backers:
“From the graphic designers of the Harry Potter film series, comes a whole new tabletop adventure set in the wizarding world. In Defenders of Hogwarts, the famed school of witchcraft and wizardry has been infiltrated by Death Eaters and Dark Forces. You must make a choice: represent your house and defend your school, or join the Dark Forces to ensure Lord Voldemort’s victory. Choose wisely, for this battle will have the power to determine the fate of Hogwarts…”
It obviously takes place during the part of the story we are most familiar with already, as we’ll be taking part in the titular defense of Hogwarts against the relentless attacks of Voldemort himself. They’re yet to put a full timeline on the game’s release, but it will get a limited physical release in stores, as well as online.
That’s obviously not the only exciting project coming out that’s tied to the Harry Potter IP, with the upcoming HBO adaptation drawing plenty of headlines for its attempts to faithfully adapt the book series. With that releasing alongside a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, it’s undoubtedly a pretty good time for fans of the franchise, after something of a lull over the last few years.
