Portugal 2-1 Nigeria – Ronaldo heads off to sixth World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo came through 65 minutes unscathed as Portugal warmed up for the World Cup with a competitive 2-1 win against Nigeria in Leiria.

Ronaldo, who made his World Cup debut way back in 2006, is set to make his sixth appearance at the tournament this summer, with most expecting it to be the 41-year-old’s last.

Ronaldo won Euro 2016 with Portugal but his best finish at a World Cup was a run to the semis in 2006.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward had plenty of sights of goal but was unable to add to his incredible tally of 143 international strikes.

Portugal will face DR Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia in Group K while Nigeria have not qualified.

Chelsea winger Pedro Neto put Portugal ahead with a crisp low finish but Nigeria were level when Akor Adams bullied his way through the defence to drive home.

Joao Felix smashed a shot against the crossbar in the second half before Francisco Conceição, one of 10 second-half changes, cut inside to curl home left footed.
