Nintendo Direct June 2026 Announcement Lineup Leaves Gamers Split

Summer Game Fest may have come to an end, but there’s one last surprise in store for gamers. Following multiple leaks, a Nintendo Direct has been officially confirmed for today: June 9, 2026. This follows showcases from PlayStation and Xbox, though I daresay expectations for Nintendo’s show might just be the highest of all three. We are, after all, now one year into the Nintendo Switch 2, and there’s a lot riding on this second year.

Incredibly, this is the first proper Nintendo Direct in nine months, with the last one airing in September 2025. What can we expect from this showcase, then? Going by various comments across Reddit and social media, the potential lineup of announcements is already splitting fans. Let’s take a look at what’s being wished for, and exactly how likely some of these announcements will be.

The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake

Likelihood: 9/10

If there’s one sure thing to come out of the Nintendo Direct later today, it’s the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Multiple reliable insiders have confirmed the existence of this game. It’s also worth noting those who said the Ocarina of Time remake is coming also correctly predicted the new Star Fox game. The only reason I’m not giving this a 10/10 is that we can’t be 100 percent sure of anything when it comes to Nintendo.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Likelihood: 10/10

Okay, I know I just said we can’t be 100 percent sure of anything when it comes to Nintendo, but there’s no way Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave doesn’t get a new trailer and release date before the end of today’s Nintendo Direct. If it doesn’t, I’ll eat my Amiibo collection.

“Fortune’s Weave info PLEASE,” one fan writes on Reddit. “It’s one of only two other 2026 releases I’m looking forward to since StH got revealed for January.”

Luigi’s Mansion 4

Likelihood: 6/10

Given the popularity of the Luigi’s Mansion series, there’s absolutely no way Nintendo is done with it forever. Whether it’s time for the next entry or not, I’m less sure about. It’d certainly be a pleasant surprise, though!

As one fan sums up nicely: “The year of Luigi never ends.”

A Super Metroid Remake Or New 2D Metroid

Likelihood: 7/10

I won’t lie to you: I would give a year of my life to get a new 2D Metroid game. Metroid Dread proved Samus still has the sauce, and the same leakers who spoke of the Ocarina remake and a new Star Fox also teased the return of Metroid. I’m sure these games are coming, although whether they get announced today is a different matter. I’m cautiously optimistic/huffing copium for this one.

A New 3D Mario

Likelihood: 3/10

Obviously, we’re getting a new 3D Mario game at some point. The fact it’s been nearly ten years since Super Mario Odyssey is criminal, but I do think we’re going to be waiting a little bit longer before we see the plumber’s next big adventure. Reliable leakers like NateTheHate put the next 3D Mario into 2027, which would suggest to me it’s definitely not showing up at today’s show.

“I’m still convinced that Donkey Kong sort of is the 3D Mario, and we’ll get something else much later or the new Mario is going to be something very different akin to 3D World,” one fan argues.

A New Animal Crossing

Likelihood: 1/10

Given the (fairly) recent release of the Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I would be astonished if a new Animal Crossing made an appearance today. I’d love to be surprised, mind you.

Zelda: Wind Waker HD & Twilight Princess HD

Likelihood: 5/10

Let’s be honest, if you don’t go into a Nintendo Direct without thinking there’s at least a 50 percent chance of Wind Waker HD showing up, you’ve lost your lust for life. Let’s keep the flame burning.

The Duskbloods Release Date

Likelihood: 9/10

I’d be very surprised if we didn’t get more information on FromSoftware’s latest game, which also happens to be exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. The Duskbloods looks like the Bloodborne sequel I always wanted, so I’m quietly optimistic for this one, and very keen to learn more about it.

Nintendo Switch Online Update

Likelihood: 10/10

We’ll almost certainly get some updates on Nintendo Switch Online. Hopefully, we will get news on some of the next few GameCube games to be added to the classics library. Mind you, I’m terrified this will be how we end up with Twilight Princess on Switch.

Of course, none of this is set in stone. And as one Reddit user sagely sums up: “Temper your expectations. Be pleasantly surprised at announcements instead of angry when things you want aren’t announced.” Sound advice indeed. Something to remember if you plan on tuning into the Nintendo Direct later. Hopefully, we’ll see you there.
