Steam Drops Dozens Of Free Downloads For Summer Game Fest

As Summer Game Fest celebrations continue, dozens of new free downloads have appeared on Steam. The festival premiered last night with a special presentation hosted by Geoff Keighley.

As expected, opening night was full of exciting announcements, including one of the most highly-anticipated bits of news: the title and release window of the final installment of the Final Fantasy 7 remake project. We also got a peek at some big projects that had been underway for a while, including Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, as well as some brand-new announcements.

The weekend isn’t just about the big-hitting titles, though. The festivities continue into the weekend with a look at more niche and indie games, following another special presentation as part of the Summer Game Fest.

The Wholesome Direct aired earlier today, offering cozy gamers a peek into the exciting new and upcoming projects in the niche genre. The presentation was jam-packed with plenty of beloved developers and games, as well as some completely new reveals.

As part of the Wholesome Direct presentation, dozens of free game demos have become available to download and try on Steam. This includes some new projects from beloved indie developers, like Book Nook (from the makers of Camper Van: Make It Home) and the Cozy Grove sequel, Cozy Grove 2: Camp Spirit.

A demo is now also available for TOEM 2, a charming sequel from Something We Made—which earned a glowing preview from us.

Moonlight Peaks conversation with Death in the evening

Several other demo highlights from the Wholesome Direct include:

Design & Conjure by Tiny Kiwi Games, where you get to clean, decorate, and restore a magical little town.
Moonlight Peaks by Little Chicken, which is like a supernatural version of Stardew Valley.
Milki Delivery by Doot Tiny Games—makers of Kabuto Park and Minami Lane—centers around a bike courier making deliveries across the countryside.
Lou’s Lagoon by Tiny Roar lets you fly a seaplane between islands, restoring them and uncovering the mystery around a disappearance while you’re at it.
Froggy Brews by Komodo Range Studio is an adorable upcoming game about a frog making tea. Enough said.

As per tradition, this year’s Direct includes merch that will directly benefit a charity. The charity this time around is the Transgender Law Center. This marks the sixth year of rounding up highlights for members of the cozy gaming community, as part of the Summar Game Fest.
