Steam Free 2024 Hit Is The Perfect Game To Celebrate Pride Month

Steam has a ton of games on offer that you can check out to celebrate Pride Month, and you can find them pretty easily by simply browsing titles under the official LGBTQ+ tag on the platform. Further, if you’re looking for some great deals on Pride-oriented games, the official LGBTQ+ sale is live now, featuring some excellent discounts on various titles in the genre.

On Steam, games tagged under LGBTQ+ usually contain significant LGBTQ+ characters, relationships, themes, storylines, or player options, or even games that were created by developers from the community, though the tag can sometimes be used inconsistently. And if you’re looking for a free game to check out to celebrate Pride Month, there’s a hidden gem from 2024 with 96% positive user reviews that features an LGBTQ+ protagonist and is well worth checking out (via Steam).

Awaria is an excellent, highly rated 2024 game that features LGBTQ+ representation through its lesbian protagonist, and is a short and sweet experience that you can play entirely for free. Developed by vanripper, the creator of Helltaker, it’s an exciting and somewhat challenging Bullet Hell game where players take on the role of a tunnel maintenance worker whose job is to fix the underground generators and figure out what’s causing them to fail.

The game features straightforward dodging and combat mechanics and a well-told story, and can be completed in a short amount of time, assuming you’re not trying to unlock all the achievements or take down the game’s final boss on Hard Mode, which as many players have noted, is a serious challenge.

Gamers on Steam hail Awaria for its simplicity, the optional difficulty modes, its art style, and more. Schizy says the game is “both challenging as hell to 100% and has cute lesbian romance,” calling the game “Perfect!”

Steam user Overlord says the game is essentially “Helltaker 2: Electric (Ghost) Boogaloo,” and says that it’s an “amazing short game that you can beat in around 2 hours. Whereas Helltaker was a puzzle game, Awaria will test your reflexes. It’s easy to learn but difficult to master. The game offers three difficulties, with hard being…. REAL DAMN HARD.”

Whether you’re in it for the LGBTQ+ representation or are looking for a serious challenge of a Bullet Hell game, Awaria is absolutely worth trying out for the low cost of absolutely free. While free-to-play titles on Steam can be an instant nonstarter for many gamers, I’d urge you to make an exception with this one, as you really get a ton of bang for your buck.
