Xbox Game Pass Officially Confirms Huge New Day-One RPG

Xbox Game Pass is getting a number of day-one releases soon, even if a few — like the delayed Fable reboot — won’t be available until next year. Last night, however, Xbox confirmed a major open-world title is headed to Game Pass soon. And, thankfully, subscribers only have a few months to wait for it to arrive.

While there are a number of day-one releases expected to arrive later in the year, Xbox was able to confirm that at least one major open-world RPG is coming to Game Pass this fall. The announcement came via the official Xbox website, and it was also shared on Reddit, where a lot of Game Pass members were pretty excited. You can read the full post below:

Xbox Game Pass has officially confirmed that Dune: Awakening will be a day-one release on the service when it arrives on consoles on September 22, 2026. It’ll arrive on Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass for PC on that date. Developed and published by Funcom, Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival RPG that can be experienced in multiplayer or solo. There’s a cinematic storyline, but you can also craft, build, and fight your way through the conflict as you can pick whether to join the Atreides or the Harkonnen.

Billed as a game that works for both fans of the Frank Herbert novels and the Denis Villeneuve movies, Dune: Awakening got solid reviews when it launched on PC. If you’ve ever wanted to explore Arrakis, then this is about as close as you’ll ever get to the real thing. So, if you’re a fan of Dune, you’ll probably want to check it out when the game arrives on consoles later this year.

If you don’t have Game Pass, there are three editions currently up for preorder on the Xbox storefront. The pricing for all three can be found here:

  • Dune: Awakening Standard Edition – $49.99
  • Dune: Awakening Deluxe Edition – $69.99
  • Dune: Awakening Ultimate Edition – $89.99

An Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription is currently $22.99 for a 1-month membership, so if you don’t care about owning the game, and aren’t intrigued by the additional goodies included with the Deluxe and Ultimate editions, then this would be the most economical way to play Dune: Awakening. And if you’re already an Xbox Game Pass member, then all you have to do is wait for the game to drop in September.
