Juventus defender Gatti suffers calf bone fracture

Juventus have confirmed Federico Gatti has suffered a calf bone fracture.

Gatti sustained the injury during Juve’s 1-0 victory over Genoa on Saturday, as new boss Igor Tudor got off to a winning start.

Italian media reports said Gatti could be out for a month after he was forced off the field in the first half after a clash with Genoa striker Andrea Pinamonti, who missed the ball and inadvertently kicked the defender’s leg.

And Juve confirmed that: “Tests revealed the presence of a compound fracture to the diaphysis of the fibula.”

Pinamonti apologised for the incident on social media.

“I am so sorry for your injury, I wish you a speedy recovery and that you can return to the field as soon as possible,” he wrote on Instagram.

Gatti said he will do everything he can to make a quick return as fifth-placed Juventus continue their battle to qualify for the Champions League with a top-four finish.

“I will try to be as close as possible to my teammates at this very important time of the season,” Gatti wrote in an Instagram story.

The 26-year-old has started 26 Serie A matches for Juve this season, with only Manuel Locatelli having played from the off in as many games in the competition among the Bianconeri’s squad.

He leads Juve’s squad for clearances (73) and headed clearances (37), ranking second for interceptions (18).

Juventus, who are just a point below fourth-placed Bologna, visit Roma on Sunday.
