Star Wars was a primarily movies-based franchise for decades, with both the original trilogy spanning 1977 to 1983 and the prequel trilogy spanning 1993 to 2005. However, in 2008, Star Wars changed the game by introducing its first canon animated TV show: Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Although it took some time gaining momentum, it is now largely considered one of Star Wars’ best TV shows, and it has led to an explosion of other shows. The franchise has been heavily geared toward live-action shows of late, with projects like The Mandalorian and Andor becoming particularly popular.
That is, undoubtedly, why Star Wars’ newest movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, was based on that show. By comparison, Star Wars’ animated shows tend to have smaller audiences, although there are many loyal fans who are just as dedicated to the animated stories as they are to the live-action shows and even the movies. Some of the most popular are Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Bad Batch, both of which have direct ties to The Clone Wars.
Yet, among the sleeper animated shows are the multiple Tales of series. Those include Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, and Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld. Each show focused on two characters, with each character getting three episodes about them. In Tales of the Jedi, they were Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano; in Tales of the Empire, they were Barriss Offee and Morgan Elsbeth; and in Tales of the Underworld, they were Cad Bane and Asajj Ventress. Now, there is at least one more Tales of show that absolutely has to happen.
Tales Of The Senate Is The Perfect Next “Tales Of” Show
Thus far, it has made plenty of sense for the Tales of shows to focus on the Jedi, the Empire, and even the Underworld, which really referred to bounty hunters. All three groups have been pivotal in Star Wars movies and TV shows, and those categories comprise some of the most interesting characters in the franchise overall. Yet, in keeping with that logic, there is one more group that absolutely must be explored in a show of this style: Senators.
Star Wars: Tales of the Senate would be a thrilling addition to these three shows that have been released thus far, especially because they haven’t exactly been an on-screen focus. Senators have certainly played a key role, from Padmé Amidala in the prequel trilogy and The Clone Wars to Mon Mothma in many Star Wars projects, though most recently Andor. However, they deserve so much more attention and screen time than they have been given.
Particularly during the Dark Times, senators were essential in taking down the Empire, and they’ve arguably been given much less credit than other Rebel heroes, despite their contributions, as Andor showed. Getting a series specifically dedicated to some of the most important senators in Star Wars would address this and would offer some truly new stories in the franchise.
Senator Chuchi And Bail Organa Should Be The Focus
If Tales of the Senate were to happen, Bail Organa and Riyo Chuchi would make excellent options. Bail has obviously had many Star Wars appearances now, not only in the prequel trilogy but also in The Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and other shows. However, his appearances have often had more to do with his connections to other characters (most prominently Leia, but the Jedi in general as well) rather than his specific work and contributions. He’s also a massive hero in Star Wars, and he deserves to be given his flowers in this way.
Although a less expected choice, Senator Chuchi would also make a great option. Thus far, she has had roles in The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, both of which showed her bravery and her heroism. Yet, getting to see more of her involvement, particularly as it pertains to assisting the Rebellion during the Dark Times, would prove especially interesting. Although it remains to be seen whether Star Wars is going to be introducing more Tales of shows, Tales of the Senate has to happen.
