Under their leadership, India transformed into a fearless overseas side and achieved historic success in Australia. Recently, Shastri revisited one memorable incident from India’s 2014 tour of Australia and revealed the only occasion when he actually had to pull Kohli away from a confrontation during a match. The story immediately caught the attention of fans, especially considering the fiery nature of Kohli’s early years in Test cricket.
Ravi Shastri reveals heated Virat Kohli moment from Australia tour
Speaking during a conversation on Kohli’s One8 podcast, Shastri recalled the dramatic incident from the Melbourne Test involving former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson. Shastri revealed that Kohli and Johnson were constantly exchanging words throughout the contest after the Australian quick struck Kohli on the helmet early in his innings.
“Never… no once, once. I’ll tell you about it. This was Melbourne, right. And he and Mitch were constantly having a go, because first ball he played he hit him on the head. And he’s off to a start at lunchtime. Both going up… as he enters the dressing room, he’s looking at Mitch like this. I had to catch him like this, come here, come here, focus on your batting. I think of those days and sometimes your hair stands,” Shastri said.
The former India coach’s recollection once again highlighted the fiery nature of Kohli’s early years in Test cricket and the intense atmosphere surrounding India’s tours of Australia during that era.

Meanwhile, Kohli continues to expand his presence beyond cricket with a fresh business venture. The Indian superstar has launched his own shoe brand called ‘one8’, officially stepping into the footwear market as an entrepreneur and co-founder. The brand recently released a promotional reel carrying the tagline ‘All heart. All in.’ It is a phrase that perfectly captures Kohli’s personality and competitive mindset. Fans have also been encouraged to pre-book the shoes through the District App for access to the exclusive launch event.
The launch marks another major addition to Kohli’s growing off-field portfolio. Over the years, the former India captain has established himself as one of the biggest sporting brands in the country through fitness ventures, fashion partnerships, and endorsements. The name ‘one8’ itself carries emotional significance as it is inspired by Kohli’s iconic jersey number 18. The footwear venture is expected to attract huge attention from fans, many of whom have already expressed excitement online about owning products connected to the cricket star.
