Yesterday saw CD Projekt RED surprise fans with confirmation of a rumor that has been circulating for quite some time. Yes, after long last, a third and final expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been officially unveiled, allowing fans to join Geralt of Rivia in one final mission before he hands over the reins to adoptive daughter, Ciri.
Since the announcement trailer for The Witcher IV aired back in 2024 during The Game Awards, fans of the CD Projekt RED RPG series have known that Ciri would become our brand-new protagonist, but many were left wondering why Geralt ended up hanging up his swords. As such, rumors began to swirl that a potential third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could be released in order to bridge the gap between the events of the two games, and now, it is finally here.
Announced just yesterday, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past will be the third and final expansion in the beloved 2015 RPG, following Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. With previous expansions being met with critical acclaim, we can only imagine that the same will be said for Songs of the Past, although how the story will unfold remains a mystery for now. With more information about Songs of the Past expected to be released during the summer, we can look forward to seeing how Geralt’s retirement will come about when the expansion launches in 2027.
However, with there being another year to wait until we can get stuck into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, fans are eager to immerse themselves back into the world, whether that means starting a brand-new playthrough, or making use of a free download courtesy of CD Projekt RED.
Revealed on the official The Witcher Twitter/X page, fans are in for a treat as they can appreciate Geralt of Rivia in all his Songs of the Past beauty by downloading the brand-new cover art in a high-definition wallpaper. Found on the official The Witcher website, the brand-new cover art that came alongside the expansion reveal is now available to download, allowing you to see all of the detail that has gone into the new piece of art, including the fact that Geralt now wields three swords. Hm…
We can also see a brand-new tree-like enemy lurking behind Geralt’s shoulder and, of course, his cat-like eyes are as prevalent as ever as they glow in the face of danger. It is a stunning piece of art and the perfect way to get us excited about the brand-new Songs of the Past expansion and, luckily, you can download and keep it for absolutely free. Who knows? Maybe it will make the wait for the next The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion that little bit easier.
