Star Wars Battlefront 3 Setting Leaves Gamers Divided, And We Get It

The love that gamers have demonstrated toward Star Wars Battlefront in the last few years is heartwarming and a testament to how fantastic the franchise has been for nearly 22 years (Star Wars Battlefront 2’s microtransaction and loot box hiccups notwithstanding). May’s unofficial Resurgence Day community event in Star Wars Battlefront 2 was the latest bit of evidence that fans adore this series and crave a threequel, which neither the original nor reboot installments have been able to ascend to.

An argument could be made that DICE and EA’s Star Wars Battlefront games have already exhausted their wellspring by having adapted each era of the Skywalker Saga into both titles, and regurgitating these nine movies for a third game could be indulgent. But, with Star Wars Battlefront 2 no longer receiving updates or expansions, fans are sharing what they would hope for from Star Wars Battlefront 3, if it ever does come to pass.

On Reddit, fans who are desperate for a new Star Wars Battlefront game are eagerly anticipating what era or eras it could explore. However, a unanimous opinion shared by all fans of Star Wars Battlefront is that Star Wars Battlefront 3 restricting itself to a single Star Wars era would be its biggest possible mistake.

User ShockscapeYT, for instance, dreads the idea of Star Wars Battlefront 3 being a Clone Wars-exclusive game, even if that reduced and tightened scope allowed the game to be more refined or take less time to be released, theoretically. In response, user A_Hideous_Beast writes, “It would be boring, quick. Variety is good. I don’t care if people hate the sequels, they should be included too.

While user supreme_leader100 agrees that Star Wars’ Clone Wars era is “top-tier,” they also agree that “the more eras the better.” This is obviously favorable due to how much content is available throughout all Star Wars lore, and a Star Wars Battlefront game could always simply feature era-specific missions or events if it wanted to zero in on one or two of them every now and then.

Of course, Star Wars Battlefront should not be leashed to Star Wars’ three iconic trilogies and a couple of spin-offs, either. It was great to have DLC expansions for A Star Wars Story’s Rogue One and Solo, for example, but it would have also been phenomenal if Star Wars Battlefront II’s content updates could have eventually entertained the concept of an Andor or Mandalorian & Grogu DLC, as well, much less DLCs adapting content from other Star Wars games like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Unfortunately, Star Wars Battlefront 3 is no closer to becoming a reality. That will not deter Star Wars Battlefront fans from praying for it, and the possibilities are endless for what settings or eras Star Wars Battlefront 3 might feature if it ever does get announced.
