Manchester United have been handed a big boost in signing West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are preparing to sign at least two midfielders this summer. They are currently in advanced talks with Atalanta for Ederson and could secure an agreement in the coming days.

Fernandes is also highly rated by the United hierarchy, and it has been claimed that United skipper Bruno has personally recommended the board to pursue a deal for the former Sporting CP graduate.

It is now claimed that the Hammers could accept a knockdown price for the Portuguese midfielder, now that they have been relegated to the Championship after a 14-year stay in the top-flight.

West Ham valued the 21-year-old at a hefty 80 million pounds earlier this year, but may have to accept just 50 million pounds after failing to beat the drop.

The Hammers may need to recoup as much as 150 million pounds from player sales to offset the financial losses coming their way in the next 12 months.
