Superhero games peaked with the LEGO Batman games, the Batman: Arkham franchise, and Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man series, with at least one entry from each being playable on PlayStation Plus. It may be no surprise, then, that games like LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine are highly anticipated, as they belong to distinguished lineages.

PS Plus is a hotbed of terrific superhero games, exploring various gameplay genres and playerbase demographics. It may not feature every single one of the best superhero games of all time, but the service is ripe with many of the ones that players should not idly overlook if they are fans of the ‘superhero’ genre.

Ben 10: Power Trip is not the best open-world game on PS Plus, to be sure, and yet it arguably ranks among the best Ben 10 games.

PAW Patrol Mighty Pups’ children’s franchise is not inherently superhero-themed. However, the Mighty Pups are tasked with saving Adventure Bay after they receive superpowers from a fallen meteor. Save Adventure Bay is not a particularly well-loved superhero game, but it has been anecdotally seminal in introducing toddlers/preschoolers to puzzle-platformers and 3D games.

PJ Masks: Heroes of the Night is an adorable PJ Masks game that leans into the show’s kids’ superhero theme, with children Connor, Amaya, and Greg donning their pajamas and animal amulets to become Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko, each with unique abilities.

Bolt (PS Plus Premium)

A licensed tie-in game that many fans might have missed—but can now play on PS Plus—Bolt is developed by Avalanche, the studio that would go on to make the best-selling game of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy. Bolt has a lot of meat on its bones in terms of gameplay, including a memorable hacking minigame, and takes place within the movie’s fictional TV show universe, where Bolt is an actual super dog and has superpowers.

Zack Zero (PS Plus Premium)

Zack Zero is a 2.5D platform-adventure game on PS Plus that would be entombed on the PS3 if not for the subscription service exhuming it for modern PlayStation consoles. If nothing else, Zack Zero will lightly scratch a Metroidvania itch for superhero fans, wherein the superhero Metroidvania game niche is remarkably thin.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is a 3v3 tag-team fighting game. Because fighting games are still a more niche genre, at least regarding how overwhelming or intimidating they might be to casual players who are unsure whether they wish to invest as much time as Ranked Online competitors, it is great to have Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid on PS Plus for anyone who wants to dip their toe into those waters.

Despite how beloved Pixar’s The Incredibles is, LEGO The Incredibles falls to the lower end of the pack of LEGO’s licensed superhero adaptations. LEGO games have only continued to get better year after year, though LEGO The Incredibles was a rare instance in which its quality did not quite meet or exceed that of some of the iconic titles that came before it. As such, every other LEGO superhero game in the PS Plus Game Catalog eclipses it.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition (PS Plus Premium)

Injustice: Gods Among Us was the tonal pivot that the reputation of future DC fighting games sorely needed following NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. The first game is debatably better than its sequel, too, with a slightly better gameplay pace, a stronger narrative and atmosphere, and far less emphasis on zoning.

While LEGO Marvel Super Heroes certainly did indulge in Marvel Cinematic Universe synergy, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers was Traveller’s Tales/TT Games’ first true opportunity to embrace synergy wholeheartedly as a loose adaptation of MCU movies’ storylines.

inFAMOUS Festival Of Blood (PS Plus Premium)

inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood is a special, vampire-centric spin-off that is only as low as it is because of how special every other inFAMOUS installment is, and the fact that it is so similar to inFAMOUS 2 will be an obvious boon for anyone whose favorite installment is the sequel.
