Kolkata Knight Riders have been dealt a major setback at a crucial stage of IPL 2026 as one of their most consistent performers has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. With the 3-time champions still mathematically alive in the playoff race, the timing of the injury could not have been worse. KKR now head into their must-win encounter against Delhi Capitals at the Eden Gardens on Saturday under immense pressure, needing both a victory and favourable results elsewhere to keep their campaign alive.
Star batter gets ruled out due to finger fracture
The player in question is young wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who has officially been ruled out of the remaining IPL 2026 matches after suffering a concussion and a fracture to his left finger during KKR’s recent clash against Mumbai Indians on May 20.
The incident occurred during the 11th over of Mumbai’s innings when Raghuvanshi and spinner Varun Chakaravarthy collided while attempting a catch to dismiss Tilak Varma. Both players lost balance in the process, and the catch was spilled. Although Raghuvanshi initially continued on the field, the impact of the collision appeared serious.
A few overs later, after Tilak’s dismissal in the 14th over, Raghuvanshi walked off the field and was replaced behind the stumps by Tejasvi Dahiya. KKR later used the concussion substitute rule to officially replace him in the playing XI as the side went on to register a comfortable four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians.
Two days later, the franchise confirmed that the 21-year-old would take no further part in IPL 2026 due to the injuries sustained during the game. The development comes as a crushing blow for the Kolkata-based franchise, especially considering Raghuvanshi’s role in stabilising the batting unit throughout the season.

Scintillating form in IPL 2026
Raghuvanshi has undoubtedly been one of KKR’s standout performers this season. The young batter emerged as the team’s highest run-scorer, amassing 422 runs at an impressive average of 42.2 and a strike rate of 146.52. His campaign also included five half-centuries, several match-defining knocks, and consistent performances under pressure.
What stood out most about Raghuvanshi’s batting this season was his maturity and fearless approach. Whether anchoring the innings after early wickets or accelerating during the death overs, the youngster repeatedly delivered in high-pressure situations. His ability to rotate strike and attack quality bowling made him a vital component in KKR’s middle order.
Apart from his batting contributions, Raghuvanshi also stepped up as wicketkeeper in recent games, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the team’s cause. His absence now leaves a significant void in both departments ahead of KKR’s biggest game of the season.
With the playoffs race entering its final stages, Kolkata Knight Riders will now have to regroup quickly and find a way to overcome the loss of one of their brightest stars. All eyes will be on how the side responds when they take the field against Delhi Capitals in what promises to be a high-stakes contest.
