MobLand has left Tom Hardy to sleep with the fishes.

MobLand is one of Paramount’s best-performing series aside from Taylor Sheridan-created shows. The impressive cast includes Hardy, Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Joanne Froggatt, Paddy Considine, and more. Season 1 of MobLand has an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 76% from critics and season 2 doesn’t have an official release date, but is expected to arrive towards the end of the year, according to Guy Ritchie.

Mobland centers on a fixer for a powerful New York crime family who decides he wants out of the life. What is the original title the series was known by before being rebranded as Mobland?

✓ Correct! The series was originally developed under the title Tulsa King before the creative team decided to rebrand it as Mobland to better reflect the show’s broader scope. The name change signaled a shift in focus from one location to the sprawling criminal underworld at large.

✗ You’ve been made! The answer is Tulsa King. The series underwent a title change during development, moving from the location-specific Tulsa King to the broader Mobland. The rebrand reflected the show’s ambition to explore the full landscape of organized crime rather than a single territory.

02

Which veteran actor leads the cast of Mobland as the crime family’s fixer who finds himself caught between loyalty to the organization and his desire for a normal life?

✓ Correct! Sylvester Stallone stars as the lead in Mobland, bringing his legendary screen presence to the role of a mob fixer trying to leave the criminal underworld behind. It marks a notable turn for Stallone in the prestige television space.

✗ You’ve been made! The answer is Sylvester Stallone. The Rocky and Rambo icon leads the cast, bringing decades of action star gravitas to a crime drama. Stallone’s involvement was one of the show’s biggest draws from the moment it was announced.

03

Mobland was created by which prolific writer-producer known for his partnership with a legendary director on shows like Yellowstone?

✓ Correct! Taylor Sheridan, the powerhouse behind Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, 1883, and Lioness, created Mobland. Sheridan has built a television empire centered on morally complex characters navigating violent worlds — and Mobland fits perfectly into that wheelhouse.

✗ You’ve been made! The answer is Taylor Sheridan. The Yellowstone creator has been one of the most prolific showrunners in television, with multiple series running simultaneously across Paramount+. David Chase created The Sopranos, Kurt Sutter created Sons of Anarchy, and Terence Winter created Boardwalk Empire.

04

On which streaming platform does Mobland air, the same home as Yellowstone and other Taylor Sheridan properties?

✓ Correct! Mobland airs on Paramount+, which has become the home of the Taylor Sheridan universe. The platform has invested heavily in Sheridan’s brand of gritty American drama, and Mobland joins an impressive lineup that includes Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, and Lioness.

✗ You’ve been made! The answer is Paramount+. The streamer has built much of its original programming strategy around Taylor Sheridan’s expanding universe of shows. Mobland continues this relationship with another high-profile series anchored by a major star.

05

After being released from prison, Stallone’s character is exiled by the mob to set up operations in which unexpected city — far from the traditional East Coast mob strongholds?

✓ Correct! The character is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, a fish-out-of-water setup that creates both comedy and tension as a New York mob boss tries to build a criminal empire in unfamiliar territory. The collision between East Coast mob culture and Oklahoma is central to the show’s identity.

✗ You’ve been made! The answer is Tulsa, Oklahoma. The show’s original title, Tulsa King, came directly from this premise. Sending a New York mob figure to build an operation in the heartland creates a unique culture-clash dynamic that sets the show apart from typical crime dramas.

06

What is the name of Stallone’s character — the aging New York Mafia capo who spent 25 years in prison and now must rebuild his life and criminal enterprise from scratch?

✓ Correct! Stallone plays Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a New York Mafia capo who took the fall for his boss and served 25 years in prison without snitching. Upon release, instead of being rewarded, he’s sent to Tulsa — which he turns into an opportunity rather than a punishment.

✗ You’ve been made! The answer is Dwight “The General” Manfredi. The nickname speaks to his commanding presence and strategic mind. Tony Manero is Travolta’s Saturday Night Fever character — a deliberate distractor for Stallone fans who know his contemporaries well.

07

Which actress plays Stacy Beale, the ATF agent who becomes entangled with Dwight’s operation in a complicated mix of duty and attraction?

✓ Correct! Andrea Savage plays ATF Agent Stacy Beale, whose investigation into Dwight’s burgeoning Tulsa operation becomes complicated by an unexpected personal connection. The push-and-pull between law enforcement and the criminal world is a central tension of the series.

✗ You’ve been made! The answer is Andrea Savage. She brings sharp, layered work to the role of an ATF agent caught between professional duty and personal entanglement. Kelly Reilly stars in Yellowstone as Beth Dutton, and Willa Fitzgerald has appeared in other Sheridan projects.

08

Unlike many mob dramas that lean heavily into darkness, Mobland has been praised for balancing crime with which unexpected tonal quality that sets it apart from shows like The Sopranos or Boardwalk Empire?

✓ Correct! Mobland blends crime drama with surprisingly effective dark comedy. Stallone’s Dwight navigating Tulsa’s culture — from marijuana dispensaries to horse country — creates a fish-out-of-water dynamic that’s both charming and funny, giving the show a lighter touch than typical mob fare.

✗ You’ve been made! The answer is dark comedy and fish-out-of-water humor. What makes Mobland stand out in the crowded mob genre is its willingness to be funny. Stallone’s old-school New York gangster reacting to Oklahoma culture provides a comedic engine that most crime dramas don’t have.

Made man — or still an associate?

Puck News has reported that Hardy has been fired from MobLand ahead of season 3’s production after alleged clashes behind-the-scenes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser. Allegedly, Hardy was late on set often during season 2’s production and was giving unwarranted notes on scripts, changed dialogue and expressed his displeasure with the series having an ensemble showcase of stars including Mirren and Brosnan.

Butterworth threatened to quit, according to a source, leaving Paramount no choice but to fire Hardy. At the time of writing, Paramount and Hardy have yet to comment. It’s unclear how Hardy’s firing will impact the future of the series, as season 2 will still feature the star, but reportedly won’t be involved in season 3.

Hardy portrayed Harry Da Souza in MobLand, who is a street-smart Portuguese-born “fixer” and hitman who operates as a loyal asset to the Harriman crime family. His marriage to Jan (played by Froggatt) is strained because of his line of work, high-stress, and loyalty to Conrad (played by Brosnan) and Maeve (played by Mirren).
