The 65th match of the Indian Premier League 2026 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians delivered drama, pressure and moments of pure class at Eden Gardens. With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, KKR stepped up when it mattered most and defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets in a tense contest.

While several players made important contributions in the game, it was veteran spinner Sunil Narine who once again stole the spotlight with a sensational spell. The mystery spinner conceded just 13 runs in his four overs and picked up the crucial wicket of MI captain Hardik Pandya with an absolute beauty that left fans and commentators stunned.

The magical moment came on the second ball of the 16th over during Mumbai Indians’ innings. Hardik, who was trying to rebuild the innings after an early collapse, looked uncomfortable against Narine’s tight lines and sharp turn throughout his stay at the crease.

Then came the delivery that changed the momentum completely. Narine bowled a perfectly disguised off-break that drifted in before spinning sharply past Hardik’s bat. The MI skipper failed to pick the variation in time and was beaten all ends up as the ball crashed into the stumps. The dismissal immediately sparked celebrations among the KKR players and the packed Eden Gardens crowd erupted in joy.

Hardik’s knock came to an end after scoring a scratchy 26 runs, and his wicket further dented Mumbai’s hopes of posting a competitive total on a difficult surface.

KKR bowlers dominate Mumbai Indians

After winning the toss, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane opted to bowl first on a tricky two-paced wicket. The decision worked brilliantly as KKR’s bowlers ripped through Mumbai’s top order inside the Powerplay.

Mumbai Indians were reduced to 41/4 early in the innings, putting them under massive pressure. Tilak Varma tried to stabilize the innings with a fighting 20, while Hardik attempted to guide the side through the middle overs. However, Narine’s economical spell made scoring extremely difficult. Late fireworks from Corbin Bosch gave Mumbai some hope as he smashed an unbeaten 32 off just 18 balls. His cameo helped MI reach 147/8, which still appeared below par considering the nature of the pitch.

Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell rescue KKR

Chasing 148, KKR suffered an early setback when Finn Allen departed in the opening over. Rahane and Cameron Green also failed to convert their starts, leaving the home side under pressure at 54/3. However, experienced batter Manish Pandey played a composed innings in his first appearance of the season. He anchored the chase beautifully with a crucial 45 off 33 deliveries.

Pandey found strong support from Rovman Powell, who counterattacked brilliantly with a powerful 40 off 30 balls. The duo stitched together a game-changing 64-run partnership that shifted the momentum back in KKR’s favour. Although Bosch created some late tension by claiming three wickets, Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy kept their calm and guided KKR home with seven balls remaining.

The victory kept Kolkata Knight Riders alive in the playoff race and gave their fans another unforgettable night at Eden Gardens, with Narine once again proving why he remains one of the most dangerous T20 bowlers in the world.
