After leaving the CIA at the end of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan season 4, Jack is pulled back into espionage to face a rogue black ops unit and a deadly conspiracy. Ryan is reunited with his team from the Prime Video series, with former CIA deputy director James Greer (Wendell Pierce) and Mike November (Michael Kelly) watching his back.

Jack Ryan’s team is aided by MI6 agent Emma Marlow (Sienna Miller), as secrets from the past long thought buried resurface. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War escalates the action of the Prime Video series and leaves the door open for more Jack Ryan adventures.

Prime Video Wants More Jack Ryan Movies After Ghost War

For fans of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, the sad news that season 4 would be the last of John Krasinski’s successful Prime Video series was mitigated by the saga’s transition into streaming feature films. The star and director of Ghost War told ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley that they hope to make more Jack Ryan movies:

John Krasinski: “I would love to [continue Jack Ryan as a film series]. I think that we all found that being in a different format just means you can tell different kinds of stories. I think we have more stories to tell.”

Andrew Bernstein: “One would hope [Jack Ryan continues after Ghost War]. Yeah, listen, we all loved making this movie. I think you can tell by the character interaction, they get along well in real life on the screen. There’s a lot more of Jack Ryan’s story to tell, and if people dig this movie, which we hope they will, we’re hopeful to make more of them. But we have to get this one out and then we’ll see what happens. But I know everyone’s super excited to do it again.”

More Jack Ryan movies are dependent on how well Ghost War does on Prime Video. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan has a global fanbase that sustained John Krasinski’s Prime Video series from 2018 to 2023. It stands to reason that home audiences will support Ghost War and turn up for more Jack Ryan movies.

Unfortunately, critics on Rotten Tomatoes are not enthusiastic about Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, which is rated 36% Rotten. That makes Ghost War the lowest-rated of all Jack Ryan movies and TV series. Yet reviews won’t matter if worldwide audiences show up for Jack in the numbers required to greenlight a sequel.

What Happened To Prime Video’s Jack Ryan Spinoffs

Jack Ryan‘s return to Prime Video in Ghost War is a reminder that the Tom Clancy-verse was meant to be a streaming franchise. In 2021, Jack Ryan was joined by the first Tom Clancy-based streaming movie on Prime Video, Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, starring Michael B. Jordan as John Clark.

Without Remorse was intended for theatrical release, but was sent to streaming due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No sequel to Without Remorse was produced, despite plans to expand John Clark’s saga with a spinoff movie about Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six team. Given that Michael B. Jordan is now an Academy Award winner, it doesn’t seem likely that he will play Clark again.

Another Jack Ryan spinoff that was quietly canceled was about Domingo “Ding” Chavez. Ding was introduced in Jack Ryan season 4 and played by Michael Peña, with the intention of Chavez spinning off on his own. Peña speculated that the complicated rights issues surrounding Tom Clancy’s characters, like Ding, torpedoed his spinoff.

Tom Clancy’s Prime Video franchise once again centers and hinges on Jack Ryan, and is dependent on Ghost War’s success.

Will Jack Ryan Season 5 Happen?

Jack Ryan continuing as a movie series is the plan, but could Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan season 5 still happen? At present, Jack Ryan‘s time as a streaming TV series is over. This is partly due to John Krasinski’s busy schedule as a writer, producer, director, and actor. Currently, Krasinski is working on the latest installment of his blockbuster A Quiet Place franchise.

Krasinski and director Andrew Bernstein feel that there are many more Jack Ryan stories to tell. However, they mean in a 2-hour movie format. Jack Ryan‘s tenure as a serialized TV series is done after four successful seasons. It’s uncommon for a TV series to jump to feature films and then go back to being a TV show again. But it’s not impossible, either.

The future of Jack Ryan‘s franchise, and what direction it takes, will be decided by how Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War does on Prime Video. Hopefully, more Jack Ryan movies will be the result, and that success will re-ignite plans for expanding Tom Clancy’s greater franchise.
