Clinical Bangladesh script history with stunning Test series whitewash over Pakistan

Bangladesh produced one of the finest performances in their Test history as they defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test to complete a memorable 2-0 whitewash at home. Chasing a daunting target of 437, Pakistan showed resistance through Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha, but Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Taijul Islam, eventually sealed a famous victory and sparked celebrations among the home crowd.

The series win marked the first-ever home Test series whitewash for Bangladesh against Pakistan and highlighted the growing maturity of the side across all departments. From recovering under pressure in the first innings to dominating the latter stages of the match, Bangladesh looked the superior team throughout the contest.

Litton Das rescues Bangladesh after early collapse

After Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl under cloudy skies, Bangladesh found themselves in deep trouble at 116/6. Pakistan’s pacers, especially Khurram Shahzad, exploited the conditions brilliantly and looked set to bowl the hosts out cheaply.

However, Litton Das once again emerged as Bangladesh’s saviour. The stylish wicketkeeper-batter played a fearless counterattacking knock of 126, combining composure with aggression to frustrate Pakistan’s bowlers. His innings shifted the momentum completely and helped Bangladesh post a respectable 278 in the first innings.

Khurram finished with impressive figures of 4/81, but Bangladesh had managed to recover from a disastrous start thanks to Litton’s brilliance.

Bangladesh bowlers seize control

Pakistan began their reply positively but failed to build substantial partnerships. Babar Azam fought hard with a classy 68, yet wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure, with Nahid Rana emerging as the standout performer.

The young pacer bowled with pace and discipline, claiming 3/60 as Pakistan were bundled out for 232. Bangladesh secured a crucial 46-run lead, which proved to be the turning point in the match. The pitch became easier for batting as the game progressed, and Bangladesh made full use of the improving conditions in their second innings.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton power Bangladesh to massive target

Bangladesh’s second innings was built on patience, discipline and smart shot selection. Mahmudul Hasan Joy provided a solid start with a valuable 52 at the top of the order before veteran Mushfiqur Rahim took complete charge of the innings.

Mushfiqur produced a masterclass in Test batting, scoring a magnificent 137 under pressure. His ability to rotate strike and punish loose deliveries steadily drained Pakistan’s confidence. Litton continued his dream match with another crucial contribution of 69 lower down the order, ensuring Bangladesh stretched their lead beyond Pakistan’s reach. Bangladesh eventually posted 390, setting Pakistan a mammoth target of 437.  Although Shahzad once again impressed with 4/86, Pakistan’s bowlers lacked support from the other end.

Mohammad Rizwan’s fightback goes in vain

Pakistan’s chase started brightly with Shan Masood scoring a fighting 71. Mohammad Rizwan then kept Pakistan alive with a determined 94, while Salman Agha added another valuable 71 during a 134-run partnership that briefly raised hopes of an unlikely escape. Rizwan and Sajid Khan also adopted an attacking approach late in the innings, but the target remained too steep.

Taijul eventually broke Pakistan’s resistance with a superb six-wicket haul. The experienced left-arm spinner finished with 6/120 and wrapped up the innings at 358, sealing a historic triumph for Bangladesh.
